Mission Statement: To stand in the presence of the Living God, and with Mary, make known to the world the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus     Position Requirements Purpose of Your Job Position: The Food Service Worker/Logistics Assistant is responsible for maintaining kitchen upkeep and cleanliness including dishwashing and cleaning of the dishes, glassware, pots and pans; assisting with food preparation and serving; loading or unloading trucks that deliver or pick up food and supplies.The position is also responsible for logistics needed for retreat house event setups and assisting with basic maintenance tasks. Qualifications and Education Requirements: Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a restaurant or similar environment as a dishwasher or food service position. Must have and maintain a ServSafe Food Handler certification in accordance with California law. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language at a high school level. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities : Must possess excellent interpersonal relations and written/oral communication skills to communicate with both internal contacts in the organization and external contacts including; vendors and customers. High sense of urgency with ability to work in a fast-paced team environment anticipating and adjusting to challenges. Able to follow directions, manage multiple tasks, and respond to urgent requests in a positive manner. Project a professional image through in-person, electronic and phone interactions. Knowledge of and ability to perform basic dishwasher functions and kitchen sanitation. Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities: Washes pots and pans and other dishes in dish room. Sweeps and mops all kitchen floors, wipes down sinks and counter tops at end of day. Puts away food delivery according to stocking directions by Supervisor. Restocks all stored items according to FIFO method (First In, First Out). Follows set schedule and work tasks according to weekly duty list provided by the Supervisor. Serves food on serving line or dining room as assigned. Cleans and prepares various foods for cooking or serving. Loads or unloads trucks that deliver or pick up food and supplies. Stocks supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and salad bars. Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas, by hand or using hand trucks. Interacts with vendors, suppliers and other workers as needed. Sets up seating, tables and tarps as needed for retreat or program events scheduled on campus. Performs basic maintenance tasks for buildings on campus. Adheres to professional dress code that reflects the mission of Sacred Heart Retreat House with excellent grooming and appearance and in accordance with health department regulations. Follows all guidelines in the handbook and policies as well as all safety procedures. Other Duties Attends all in-services, meetings and other training required by this position. Performs basic maintenance for kitchen as needed. Performs other tasks as requested by Administration. Working Environment Fast paced Kitchen Environment Exposure to various temperatures from hot ovens to walk in freezers ranging from approximately 32°F - 125°F degrees. Exposure to strong smells and odors. Mobility over 4 acre campus and multiple buildings require. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, but typically between the hours of 8 am-5pm and some nights and weekends with little to no overtime. Physical Requirements This position spends approximately 85% of the day walking, standing and moving for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit, stand, bend and walk in the course of their normal duties. Must have hand and wrist coordination. Must be able to push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum distance of 50 feet. Must be able to lift a minimum 25 pounds alone and a minimum of 50 pounds in partnered lifting to a minimum height of 5-7 feet. Must have good vision for close up work (with or without the aid of eye glasses or contact lenses).
