Position Requirements

Purpose of Your Job Position:

The Development Associate (DA) oversees, coordinates and guides the fundraising and communication efforts for the Apostolic Center. This position works closely in collaboration with the Administrator (Retreat Directress) and the Apostolic Directress of Mission Advancement (ADMA - who represents the Office of Mission Advancement – OMA). The DA is responsible for overseeing the effectiveness of Apostolic Center’s fundraising events and outreach efforts that bring in contributions. The Development Associate serves on the leadership team of the Sacred Heart Retreat House, with oversight of all fundraising and communication efforts.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field and 5+ years’ experience
  • Understanding of fundraising principles and practices
  • Understanding of communication principles, practices and modes (with a special emphasis on social media)

  • Data analysis and develop strategies in answer to the data
  • Manage resources within approved budget
  • Ability to work some weekends and some holidays

Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising

In collaboration with the Office of Mission Advancement (OMA)

  • Plans and implements Development Plan, in collaboration with the Administrator and ADMA utilizing best practices in fundraising events, annual fund, and major gift programs to meet fundraising goals.
  • Assists with management of major donor outreach in collaboration with ADMA
  • Leads Monthly Development Reviews (MDR), prepares and presents regular report on progress towards fundraising goals
  • Works closely with ADMA to increase outreach and stewardship to Apostolic Center donor base:
    • Annual donors: Engage constituents to grow donor base and retain donors, including as monthly donors
    • Major donors: Grow major gifts including identification, cultivation and solicitations
  • Plans, executes, and facilitates special events for AC fundraising/stewardship purposes, working in collaboration with the Office of Mission Advancement (OMA). This includes but is not limited to:
    • Coordinating and leading event committee meetings
    • Coordinating logistics for on-site development activities
    • Preparing supplemental materials for on-site development activities
    • Assess effectiveness of fundraising efforts for continued growth.
  • Oversees and directs appeal/mailing fundraising efforts in collaboration with OMA and ensures fundraising principles/practices are incorporated, with clear messaging. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Coordinating/sending appeal and Christmas mailings
    • Acknowledging gifts and donations
    • Facilitating prospect engagement for Rretreat Directress re: special dates/anniversaries
  • Assists with Foundation grant writing/reporting which includes but is not limited to:
    • Providing initial research
    • Assisting with coordination of on-site visits
    • Providing on-site research for grant follow-up reporting
  • Assists with maintaining integrity of data in collaboration with OMA, systematically processing information/donations and sending to OMA for tracking purposes.

 

Communications

In collaboration with the Office of Mission Advancement (OMA)

  • Creates print, digital, and social media content for fundraising/stewardship purposes in collaboration with OMA for style guide alignment
  • Oversee print and digital outreach through website and social media outreach to insure integration of messaging and communication of our mission.
  • Creates and implements social media campaigns and engages in active social media outreach that helps Apostolic Center achieve communication goals
  • Research opportunities to grow visibility in ways that are aligned to our values
  • Provide marketing and community outreach support as needed which includes but is not limited to:
    • Outreach to retreatants
    • Delivering marketing materials for services and events
    • Performing market research
  • Collaborates with other teams to build cohesion and continuity to build and steward relationships with donors and those we serve
  • Serves as a liaison as needed in meetings with potential donors

 

General

  • Maintain work department / work environment in a clean, orderly and organized manner
  • Attend in-services, other training and meetings required by this position
  • Adhere to professional dress code that reflects the mission of the Apostolic Center
  • Follow all guidelines in the employee’s handbook and all safety procedures established by Apostolic Center

Working Conditions

  • Able to travel locally, driving a car as the most frequent mode of transportation
  • Flexible schedule required as pertains to start and end times of work day and days of the week
  • Moves intermittently during working hours
  • Subject to frequent interruptions

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Ability to tolerate extended periods of time standing or moving about
  • Ability to tolerate extended periods of time sitting at a desk or computer
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, a minimum of 25 pounds and be able to push, pull, move, such a weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry a minimum of 25 pounds and lift to a height of 5 feet
