About the Organization A pioneering not-for-profit affordable housing developer and community programs initiator in New York City, Settlement Housing Fund, Inc. has worked since 1969 to create more than 9,000 apartments through 73 affordable rental and homeownership development projects. Settlement Housing presently owns and maintains 50 buildings with more than 3,100 apartments throughout New York City, with concentrations of housing and services in the Mt. Eden and Fordham Heights sections of the Bronx, Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the Lower East Side, as well as other sites throughout Manhattan. The organization is working on a growing pipeline of new construction and preservation projects throughout the city, and expanding its Resident Engagement Services to meet the housing stability needs of households leaving shelter and other at-risk tenants.



Settlement Housing Fund is the parent organization of The Crenulated Company, LTD dba New Settlement which was created in 1989 with the acquisition of 14 abandoned buildings from the City of New York. New Settlement has evolved into a robust social service organization offering a range of community-based services in education, college access, youth development, arts, workforce development, community organizing, wellness and other key services that provide important resources to the neighborhood's youth and families. New Settlement's success has been achieved through close collaboration with a wide range of educational institutions, housing and community development organizations, businesses, youth development and social service agencies - in the neighborhood, Bronx-wide, across New York and nationally. Description

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Head Coach is responsible for the management and operation of the Blue Seals Swim Team. The Head Swim Coach will provide leadership, coaching and motivation for participants on the youth swim teams. Follows and enforces safety standards and other policies and procedures and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for aquatics swim team. Supports the Aquatics Department as needed through leading swim classes and guarding as needed.

Job Duties include but not limited to:

  • Upholding all applicable USA SWIM, Metro Swim League, and NSCC rules and regulations.
  • Recommending the appointment/retention of assistant coaches and team manager; providing supervision for these staff members.
  • Recruiting quality student-athletes based on academic goals as well as athletic ability.
  • Attending all practices and meets; providing team and individual skill development.
  • Scheduling, planning and organizing practice sessions.
  • Scheduling all regular season and post-season meets.
  • Planning and coordinating of team travel arrangements.
  • Managing team budget with Center Director and keeping strict records of all expenditures and receipts.
  • Reporting results and providing a synopsis of meets for promotion on website and social media.
  • Reviewing equipment / apparel inventory and preparing orders after each season.
  • Promoting the team by participating in various events / activities on and off site.
  • Overseeing team academic success and personal growth in team members.
  • Attending required coaches meetings and completing trainings as assigned.
  • Availability for weekday evening practices and weekend meets.
  • Availability for attending post-season championship swim meets which include some weekdays and overnight trips.
  • Some driving may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates Degree or higher preferred.
  • Licensed Water Safety Instructor
  • 2 years of successful experience as an assistant or head coach preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR / AED, Water Safety Instructor, Life Guard, and USA Swimming Coach certification prior to the time of appointment.
  • Strong managerial, organizational, technological and verbal/written communication skills required.
  • History of success in the areas of recruiting, athlete and team development preferred.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing. Vehicle ownership required.
