Wage: $39,291 - $45,000

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

UGM Thrift Stores specialize in reselling, reusing, and recycling slightly used donated clothing, furniture, and household items. The Processing Manager is primarily responsible for creating a Christ-centered environment by leading the processing team by example and performing all duties required to receive, sort, and price donated items.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES:

This position directly supervises the Assistant Processing Manager, Shift Leads, and Processing staff.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Result Area #1: Culture, Training and Best Practices

  • Lead and equip team to reveal Christ in every aspect of their job, to each other, donors, customers, and volunteers.
  • Oversee the team in all areas related to accepting donations, presorting and pricing merchandise.
  • Provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere for processing staff to promote further professional development and growth.
  • Implement and adhere to continuous customer service standards, and policies and procedures for receiving donations.
  • Train and retain employees, implementing The 5 Steps of Leadership Development: 1) I do, you watch, 2) I do, you help, 3) You do, I help, We talk, 4) You do, I help, We talk, 5) You do, Someone else watches.
  • Set high performance goals and communicate clearly with the team to achieve the daily target.
  • Train processing staff and volunteers to maintain a clean and well-organized receiving, presort, and processing areas.
  • Train and hold staff accountable for recognizing the value and appropriate pricing needs of items prior to those items reaching the sales floor.
  • Schedule staff appropriately to ensure team is well equipped for high volume days.
  • Responsible to develop and grow the Assistant Manager into a viable Processing Manager candidate.
  • Facilitate and promote an encouraging, positive and unified relationship between Processing and Retail Departments.
  • Share the UGM story and continually connects the dots for staff and customers.

 

Key Result Area #2: Administrative Duties

  • Execute necessary paperwork related to employees including document coaching opportunities, hiring paperwork, termination paperwork, worker’s compensation paperwork, etc.
  • Responsible for hiring and termination of all processing staff.
  • Review Thrifttrac and Cyfe apps to understand the Daily Dashboards and communicate targets to team. Ensure that production metrics in to Thrifttrac every day.
  • Work with and effectively communicate each day with the Retail Manager to ensure all the operational needs of the store are being met.
  • Communicate efficiently and clearly with Regional Director on daily needs and progress of the Processing team.
  • Ensure that work schedules are prepared two weeks in advance and posted in the employee lounge.
  • Approve time clock hours every day and enter personal time off requests (PTO) hours in the time clock system.
  • Document all employee related issues in their Personal Development Plan (PDP), and sending all official warning notices to the Human Resources department for the employee file.

Key Result Area #3: Environment and Safety

  • Monitor safety issues that may affect employees and customers daily.
  • Ensure that each new employee receives the Safety Orientation for the store.
  • Maintain OSHA and WISHA standards by providing and documenting weekly safety training.
  • Become aware of individual employee needs and accommodate when possible and necessary.

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer literate with a high proficiency using Word, Excel, Outlook; able to complete documents, reports and accurately record information.
  • Excellent communication skills written, oral, and instructional.
  • Prove to be teachable: organized with the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at once; able to listen and follow instructions.
  • Prove to be a leader: show ability to listen empathically, respond appropriately in emotional situations, and resolve difficult employee and customer related issues in an understanding way with the goal of maintaining relationships.
  • Prove to be an effective manager: show ability to train employees in standard processes and procedures with the goal of developing other leaders and managers in the retail industry.
  • Basic mathematical skills and be able to perform balancing tils and deposits.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:

  • Work is primarily indoors. It requires climbing stairs, sitting, standing, bending, and reaching - Continuously.
  • Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about the store on a regular and ongoing basis – Continuously.
  • Requires the ability to hear, see, and speak clearly – continuously.

 

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED:

  • Variety of tools used in the pricing and production process, i.e., pricing guns, steamers, z-racks, clothing racks and displays, forklift, carts, etc.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Two or four year college degree in applicable field of study, or equivalent years of experience managing a retail store.
  • 5 plus years in the retail industry preferable with Assistant Manager and Sales experience.
  • Experience creating pricing policies and managing sales and promotions.
  • Experience establishing production standards and processes.
