Wage: $20.95 - $25.15

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Structure and manage a high quality, Christ-centered program that specifically targets the basic and spiritual needs of children and their families in Anna Ogden Hall (AOH).

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Result Area #1: CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMING

  • Assess and address each child’s physical, spiritual, social, emotional and educational needs
  • Work with moms to assess their child's developmental progress
  • Provide and coordinate activities designed to support children’s developmental progress and encourage spiritual growthWork with moms and counseling staff to create parenting plans
  • Teach and model biblical parenting
  • Work with moms and counseling staff to create parenting plans
  • Provide parenting education opportunities
  • Plan program including academic, creative and fun components
  • Each child has on file an assessment of, and plan for addressing, their developmental needs
  • Developmental progress of each child is documented and reviewed with moms
  • Schedule of activities is planned and presented to staff at least 3 months in advance
  • Moms have a written parenting plan on file (if visitations occur with other family members)
  • Volunteers are trained and functioning in the Children’s Program
  • Parenting seminars and/or classes are offered at least three times per year
  • Program (parenting) classes are taught by self or other instructor(s) within the Children’s Dept. each trimester
  • Special activities for holidays and summer events are planned and implemented

Key Result Area #2: CHILDCARE ADMINISTRATION

  • Supervise Children’s Program Assistant and volunteers to insure that high quality childcare is being provided in a loving, nurturing environment on a daily basis
  • Model consistent and appropriate discipline practices for staff and volunteers
  • Recruit, train and equip Associate Staff, High Impact volunteers and staff to plan and implement Children’s Program
  • Ensure that UGMM Policies and Procedures are followed in the Children’s Center
  • Manage children’s budget for program supplies, outings, and food
  • Manage children’s inventory resources, i.e., program supplies, donated items, food, clothing
  • Staff, Associate Staff and volunteers know and are able to implement appropriate discipline
  • House Facilitator is aware of and addressing maintenance, repair needs in the Children’s Center
  • Kitchen Supervisor has advance notice of children’s food needs
  • Children’s Program financial resources: have receipts recorded and returned to admin in a timely manner

Key Result Area #3: DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES

  • Regularly communicates with and involves AOH staff regarding children's status and progress
  • Development of training manuals for Associate Staff and volunteers
  • Children’s staff and volunteers are growing in their understanding of Christ-likeness, holding others accountable, participating in and leading others to self-evaluations

 

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Committed Christian, able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry for the poor, homeless, drug addicted and mentally ill. Grounded in the Christian faith as a mature, active member of the body of Christ. In accordance with Union Gospel Mission Statement of Purpose, Statement of Vision and Statement of Faith
  • Strong Interpersonal skills - exercise compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ
  • Able and willing, as a unified team member, to honor the leadership, chain of command, and standards and ministry objectives of Union Gospel Mission
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook); able to complete documents, reports and accurately record information. Willing to continue education as needed or required
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and instructional
  • Must have a teachable spirit and the ability manage multiple emotional and task related variables, listen, and make sound decisions in alignment with UGM’s purpose
  • Insightful, trustworthy, honest, reliable, model appropriate boundaries, and strong work ethic
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license– required
  • CPR/First Aid certification – required
  • Yearly TB clearance – required
  • Criminal background check clearance – required

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:

Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100%

  • Work is primarily indoors and may require climbing three flights of stairs, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and going from building to building - Continuously
  • Requires working with a diverse population, many of whom struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness – continuously
  • Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all of the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis – frequently
  • Requires the ability to hear, see, and speak clearly – continuously

 

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED:

  • Computer (Word, Excel, Database, Outlook, Internet), Copier/printer, Phone, Fax

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree pertaining to childhood development – preferred
  • 5+ year’s prior related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
