Desktop Support Engineer 

Description

The Desktop Support Engineer under IT Leadership is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a standardized desktops/laptops and mobile devices. Additional responsibilities consist of Operating System deployment, software distribution, software update management, endpoint security management and asset intelligence. Also the Desktop Support Engineer will act as a escalation point for Desktop Support Group Team Leads and fellow Desktop Support Group members before escalating matters to the Desktop Support Group Manager.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide high level technical support for Tier-3 issue escalations/tickets including executive level support.
  • Effectively collaborate with team members, IT, and other departments in the organization.
  • Engineer, build, and maintain the enterprise level device management solution with a focus on automating tasks where possible.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of Desktop Engineering tools, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Endpoint Manager (MEM), Azure AD, Defender for Endpoint (DFE), and Airwatch.
  • Ability to effectively share knowledge and train teammates on current and newly implanted products and services.
  • Deploy and maintain operating systems, business software, and application to End User Computer system remotely using EDM or MDM.
  • Evaluate new and emerging product technologies to enhance the desktop imaging solution.
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of new desktop hardware models maintaining a continuous build and test cycle.
  • Create and maintain processes and documents pertaining to the managed workstation environment.
  • Provide any reports related to desktop supported IT Assets and services upon IT leadership’s request.
  • Ensure we meet and/or exceed users’ expectations around user experience.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience
  • 7 years technical experience in support of desktop technologies within a professional environment
  • 7 years Windows Desktop OS administration experience with extended knowledge of Windows 10
  • 5 years Apple Desktop OS administration experience
  • 5 years mobile device management solutions experience
  • Experience in enterprise-wide IT asset deployment and life-cycle management
  • Demonstrated ability in desktop and systems design
  • 5 years of experience in one or more programming languages (i.e. PowerShell.)
  • Experience troubleshooting Lenovo, Apple, Dell or HP hardware platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune Endpoint Manager or similar.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint or similar enterprise EDR product
  • 5 years working with Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Experience using Jira or other related IT Service Management platforms (IT ticketing or help desk system) for case and incident management
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented collaborative environment
  • Ability to quickly learn systems with little or no documentation.
  • Demonstrate ability to think “outside-the-box”, performs research, and operates independently in order to devise solutions to difficult problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stress appropriately and professionally.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments and trouble tickets as necessary to ensure that help requests are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills. Highly self-motivated and detail oriented.

 

Physical Demands of the role:

Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 40 pounds throughout the work hour.
