Description

Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is looking for a Housing Specialist to join our Permanent Supportive Housing team! Under the direction of the Community Based Services Supervisor the PSH Housing Specialist provides a variety of office and field activities to manage and monitor a Permanent Supportive Housing Program for individuals and families.

Essential Functions

  • Complete assessments to determine eligibility for Permanent Supportive Housing.
  • Assess housing barriers of individuals experiencing homelessness to determine housing and service needs.
  • Develops a housing needs service plan with clients.  This shall include intake interview to determine client’s needs, goals, and eligibility.
  • Completes period income verification and rental subsidy calculations upon receipt of third party/source documentation of income and benefits.
  • Participates in the development of the consumer’s service plan.
  • Assists participants in locating, applying for and securing housing of their choice.
  • Serve as an ongoing liaison between property managers, supportive services and participants.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic human needs.
  • Community resources.
  • Housing quality standards and basic habitability inspections
  • Permanent Supportive Housing model guidelines
  • Housing first principles
  • Fair housing laws
  • Interviewing techniques.

 

Skills pertaining to:

  • Assessment of a client's barriers to housing and development of plan to overcome them.
  • Linking clients with appropriate mainstream resources.
  • Communicating effectively with landlords as well as individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

 

Ability to:

  • Work effectively with adult clients with a wide range of life experiences.
  • Demonstrate good professional judgment.
  • Communicate clearly in written and oral formats

 

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field.
  • 1 year experience working in community resources or individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Must have a valid VA driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Housing experience strongly preferred
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) certification preferred but not required.
