JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer will lead the development and creation of complex design and documentation packages for new and existing products utilizing and applying engineering principles, research data, and proposed product specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The overriding business objective for the Mechanical Engineer will be to help successfully develop new electrical power systems products that support AES being a world-recognized leader in aircraft electrical power generation, distribution and conversion for small to mid-sized business jets, UAV’s and rotorcraft and eVTOL (electric vertal take-off & landing). The key performance objectives for this position are described below.

  1. Development Engineering Support. The Mechanical Engineer support development of new products in the Astronics Aircraft Power and Control product line. Development tasks consist of innovative conceptual designs, thorough detail design and documentation, structural analysis, thermal analysis, environmental test support. These efforts require creativity, proficiency in mechanical engineering software tools, hands on testing, problem solving and decision making.
  2. Develop a cooperative working relationship with internal engineering resources. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to a collaborative relationship with engineering staff at Astronics. This involves working with other disciplines including systems, electrical and software engineering. The successful candidate will promote cooperation among team members, provide technical concepts and feedback, and ask questions of experienced staff to develop their own skills.
  3. Engineering Interface. Astronics AES mechanical engineering works with multiple internal and external customers and the ability to communicate effectively is critical. The mechanical engineer will participate and present material in design reviews, write technical reports and participate in both group and individual discussions.
  4. Production Support. The Mechanical Engineer will assist in supporting the ongoing production of Astronics products. This primary responsibility for this objective will be to provide mechanical engineering review of design changes or product improvements. This involves understanding impact of design decisions on technical performance, product quality, schedule and cost.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required.
  • One to four years of mechanical engineering experience relevant to power conversion products. New graduates with internship experience will be considered. 
  • Preferred experience:
    • Ability to develop innovative product designs from concept to production.
    • Expertise with solid modeling software tools, Solidworks is preferred.
    • Experience with thermal analysis software, Solidworks Flow Simulation is preferred.
    • Experience with structural analysis software, ANSYS is preferred.
    • Experience validating temperature analysis with environmental testing.
    • Experience validating vibration analysis with environmental testing. 
    • Ability to present technical presentations to internal and external groups.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a US Person (under ITAR rules) to be eligible.
