Head Start Coach

Pay Rate: $18.05


$2500 for new Regular Full-Time employees to be paid out as follows:

$500 at time of hire (first paycheck)

$500 at successful completion of 90 days (removed from providisonal status)

$1500 at successful completion of school year


General Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Practice Based Coaching Model as required by the Head Start Performance Standards and state and federal mandates.
  • Ensure quality program service delivery.
  • Protect the privacy of customers/families and hold in confidence all information obtained in the course of service.

Specific Duties:

  • Utilize the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Act, the Early Childhood Standards of Quality, and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework to ensure programs requirements are met.
  • Build relationships with education staff based on mutual respect.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, practice conflict resolution skills, have an ongoing commitment to learning; possess good observation skills, model best practices working with young children.
  • Ensure that education staff are utilizing all assessment tools and data for providing developmentally appropriate home visits.
  • Provide coaching to the education staff that supports their professional skill development to help them gain knowledge they need to provide high quality services to children and families.
  • Provide assigned education staff with professional and relationship-based coaching using the Practice Based Coaching model.
  • Regularly retrieve and review data with the education staff to inform and improve opportunities for children and families.
  • Follow the Practice Based Coaching Model for observation schedule when observing/monitoring education staff.
  • Provide and facilitate a minimum of 4 training opportunities for HS staff based on but not limited to Individualized Professional Development Plan (IPDP), Skills Profiles and Strength and Needs Assessment.
  • Mentor new staff for 3 months based on the New Staff Onboarding procedure and ongoing as needed.
  • Complete and monitor the IPDP with each education staff per the Head Start Training plan including completion of Skills Profile
  • Check in with education staff on a regular basis to offer support and guidance.
  • Submit copies of the observations to the Education Manager at the end of each month.
  • Work with the Education Manager to organize and facilitate project guided communities and study groups that embed current research shown to improve education staff knowledge and child/family outcomes.
  • Work with Education Manager and Management Team to identify improvement areas to impact ongoing work of the project, home visits and individual education staffs level.
  • Travel within two counties to provide coaching model.
  • Meet on a regular basis with Education Manager.
  • Accurately complete required program documentation and record keeping in a neat and timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with ECS Management Team to make sure all areas of service are in compliance and continually improving.
  • Recruit families and promote agency programs within the community.
  • Participate in personal and professional development activities, including staff meetings, conferences, training opportunities, as identified and approved by supervisors.
  • Attend community events and meetings to support the agency programs; including evening and weekend events/meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and collaborative work preferred.
  • CLASS reliable preferred. Must obtain within first year of employment.
  • Must complete 16 hours of annual training in addition to CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • Family Service Credential within 18 months of hire or the first session offered thereafter.
  • Preschool experiences preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability as a strength-based leader.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum/Teaching Strategies Gold/Child Plus preferred.

  • Possess a solid knowledge base with respect to child development and family services and seek to expand knowledge at every opportunity.
  • Complete additional certifications as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and code of ethics at all times.
  • Must have Proficient Computer Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, provide proof of insurance, and MMCAA’s “Insurance Carriers” driving record review.
  • Successfully complete required background checks at time of hire and when requested.
  • Shall provide written report by a physician stating their physical capability and freedom from communicable tuberculosis.
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills and be able to work effectively with people.
  • Must be self-directed and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in order to deliver desired outcomes within allocated time frames.
  • Must be willing to accept new challenges.
  • The ability to navigate and effectively resolve conflict.
  • Must comply with Agency tobacco free and drug free policies.
  • Understand the importance of daily work attendance, and its impact on coworkers, clients, and the agency.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.
