As an Outpatient Medical Coder, you will perform outpatient coding for one of our valued clients.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Reviews medical record documentation and assigns ICD-10-CM and CPT, HCPCS, CPT modifier, and E&M codes supported by medical record documentation.
  • Understands APC reimbursement methodology and medical necessity for ambulatory care.
  • Understands and compliantly applies NCCI edits.
  • Utilizes our client’s electronic medical record (EMR), encoder, and computer-assisted coding (CAC) software as directed.
  • Ensures optimal reimbursement while maintaining compliance with CMS and third-party payor policies and guidelines.
  • Maintains compliance with eCatalyst and client’s coding policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Abstracts pertinent information from the medical record, per client guidelines.
  • Consistently maintains 95% or above accuracy rate while meeting established productivity standards.
  • Completes coding continuing education and maintains coding credentials.
  • Attends and participates in eCatalyst and client meetings as requested.
  • Completes daily production log and daily time keeping requirements.
  • Ensures HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Consistently delivers eCatalyst’s brand promise of “Exceptional Services Delivered with Unrelenting Client Focus” to our client partners.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years of facility outpatient coding experience.
  • Proficiency in multiple EMR’s, encoders, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent knowledge of payor and CMS coding guidelines.
  • Educated in HIPAA regulations; must maintain strict confidentiality of patient Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Consistently achieves quality and productivity standards.
  • Excellent medical terminology knowledge.
  • Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • 5+ years of outpatient coding experience.

 

Required Certifications

You must have, and maintain at least one of the following professional certifications:

  • RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)
  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)

 

Preferred Certifications

  • RHIA/RHIT with CCS
  • RHIT/RHIT with CCS, CCS-P
