The Cook will support the Frederick Living Mission of caring for and enriching the lives of older adults with the following essential responsibilities:

  • Prepares meals and accompaniments following preparation sheets and provided recipes for dining room service, heath care center, Bistro and special functions.
  • Ability to work varied shifts and prepare various meals-breakfast, lunch, dinner, including soups & sauces.
  • Ability to work Bistro stations including grill, fryer, deli and pizza.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food preparation and handling technique.
  • General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices.
  • Ability to work well independently given proper direction.
  • Confers with Chef or Manager on unusual problems and has latitude to cope with other problems.
  • Responsible for hot food preparation, including accompaniments and garnishes.
  • Does advance preparation as needed.
  • Services eye-appealing, tasty food items following recipes provided for preparation and plate service of food.
  • Completes food temperature checks each meal and tastes all food items prepared.
  • Completes preparation records and stores food items properly at close of meal service.
  • Cleans work area and equipment used in food preparation.
  • Takes necessary precautions and follows correct procedures for lifting and bending.
  • Ensures that all hot food preparation and assembling is done in accordance with established procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures.
  • Cooperates with staff of other departments in performing job duties.
  • Provides clean, safe, and neat environment for residents, self and staff.
  • Abide by the organizations code of conduct in the performance of their duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to stand on tile floor and maneuver independently and safely around work area in an eight hour shift.
  • Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
  • Able to see, hear and speak adequately (with or without accommodations) to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Has sufficient manual dexterity to operate kitchen equipment and point of sale system.

  • High School education or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior Cooking experience in food service desired.
