General Purpose

Under the direction of the Department Senior Supervisor, this position supervises and provides daily leadership over a team of utility locate technicians assisting management to ensure a safe working environment, quality workmanship, customer satisfaction, and compliance with governmental agencies. This position will be responsible for assisting the Utility Senior Supervisor in the training and monitoring of the Utility Locator’s work performance and act as a technical expert in troubleshooting problem locates, process improvements, employee rewards and disciplinary actions, etc.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works independently and ensures all employees being supervised efficiently work through the day's work assignments.
  • Acts as a lead over the Utility Locators by providing close oversight of the Utility Locator personnel in the completion, performance, and accuracy of locate requests in accordance with state law
  • Performs employee training/development
  • Resolves daily operational issues/problems as they relate to balancing of workload, vehicles, and locate equipment; and provides troubleshooting help to the Utility Locators
  • Reads and interprets electronic or paper utility plat maps to facilitate locating utility lines
  • Performs assignments in hazardous traffic environments and are required to use appropriate safety equipment and procedures
  • Provides high level of customer service and relations is expected in the area of conflict resolution
  • Requires ability to work after business hours; emergency on–call, call-out and stand-by and overtime as required
  • Reports to the Utility Senior Supervisor through all meetings, conferences, reports concerning volume, timeliness of locates, problems encountered, and overall results achieved

Supervisory Duties (if any)

  • Provide leadership for assigned staff consisting of Locate Techs & Administrators

 

Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job.

 
Position Requirements

Job Qualifications

Experience:

  • Three (3+) or more years of management experience is required
  • Five (5+) or more years of construction experience is required
  • Material procurement and material management experience is required
  • Proven skills, and excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year to year basis

 

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid State of Colorado Driver’s License is required
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen

  • HS Diploma or GED
