Description

We are seeking a candidate to fill this full-time position at our office in Greenwood, IN.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Schedule requested testing and referrals for outside physician appointments, facilitate referral numbers for testing and visits, notifying patients, and logging appropriate information in the EMR system or paper medical record.

  1. Complete scheduling and/or obtaining appropriate referrals.
  2. Checks patient’s insurance for PCP and to be sure insurance is current.
  3. Confirms that physician or facility patient is being sent to, is in network and obtains authorization for testing and referral for physician appointment if needed.
  4. Schedules appointment or test for patient and notifies patient of appointment date and time.
  5. Completes an order if needed.
  6. Faxes order/referral to appropriate physician or hospital including, demographics, insurance card, consult note, medication lists, and other information pertinent to the visit.
  7. Logs testing and/or referral into the patient’s EMR.
  8. Pulls off voicemails and answers calls in a timely fashion.
  9. Responsible for keeping all medical assistant’s referral books/cover sheets updated.
  10. Responsible for updating physician/group referral sheets.
  11. Responsible for notifying all medical assistants on any changes for referrals and authorizations.
  12. Responsible for coordinating Home Sleep Apnea Testing.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. Medical Assistant Training from an Accredited School or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Knowledge of insurance products and referral process.
  2. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  4. Ability to document information appropriately in-patient records, reports and other correspondence.
  5. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
