Status: Exempt/Full-time

Salary: $53,616.99/annually

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, coordinates treatment for clients with severe psychological disorders; providing counseling, case management and client support services according to established policies and procedures.

The work is normally reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness and conformance to established standards; major work tasks are covered by instructions or procedures and unusual situations are referred to a supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts a comprehensive assessment of clients identifying needs for the development of the treatment plan; authorizes psychiatric hospitalization.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans based on assessments, information and observations provided by staff members, family members, and professionals.
  • Monitors treatment plans implemented; makes adjustments when appropriate to obtain desired outcomes.
  • Provides individual, group, couples, and family counseling to prevent increased mental decompensation or self-harm to clients.
  • Manages treatment plans for clients to include multiple service plans incorporating referrals and followup with other agencies, resources, and programs.
  • Provides crisis intervention by responding to client's needs during acute emotional and/or physical stress.
  • Documents timely and accurately the results of the assessment and treatment plans, reports, progress notes, discharge summaries and other client-related data; provides data for the maintenance of the TOBH database; generates reports to include all clinical, prevention, and educational activities.
  • Transports clients to/from service treatment center or outside activities as needed; assists clients with daily life skills activities.
  • Conducts home visits to clients as required.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Tohono O’odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of managed care delivery systems and behavioral health licensing standards.
  • Knowledge of O'odham culture and traditions.
  • Knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnostic criteria.
  • Knowledge in records management procedures.
  • Skill in conducting interviews, individual and group therapy sessions with empathy and enthusiasm.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.
  • Ability to travel within the interior/exterior boundaries of the Tohono O’odham Nation.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling or Behavior Health and one year work experience in a clinical setting assessing and treating psychological disorders, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must possess an Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners License in Behavioral Health.
  • Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
  • Upon recommendation for hire a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver’s license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Employee work requires the ability to handle stressful situations.
