Status: Non-Exempt/Full-time

Salary: $21.16/hourly

Position Summary:

Under close supervision, provides basic services to individuals with mental health, alcohol/substance abuse and related behavioral issues using established protocols.

The work is normally reviewed in progress and upon completion of each assignment to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; most aspects of the work tasks are covered by detailed instructions or procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts intakes and orients new clients.
  • Ensures clients are in a safe environment.
  • Provides skill training or demonstrates skills to clients in daily living, self-care, career planning, social relationships, work life, housing and money management.
  • Assists clients with meal preparation on a daily basis, as well as for homebound elders.
  • Provides counseling to clients, one-to-one, family and group sessions.
  • Transports clients to/from service agencies or outside activities as needed.
  • Encourages clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
  • Counsels family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting clients or patients.
  • Provides case management; keeps client records and charts updated.
  • Makes home visits or transports clients to facilities and/or events related to client’s treatment plan for client wellness.
  • Assists individuals and family members by referring them to other agencies for medical, psychological, education, training, employment, spiritual, or other needs.
  • Attends scheduled meetings with staff, various social service entities and social security to discuss client’s needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment.
  • Complies with the rules of confidentiality and privacy outlined by HIPAA.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Tohono O’odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of the 12 step program.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of the economic, educational, health and social problems of Native Americans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge in records management procedures.
  • Skill in conducting interviews, individual and group therapy sessions with empathy and enthusiasm.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity to community issues and concerns.
  • Ability to treat both staff and patients with respect.
  • Ability to be friendly and empathic communicator.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.

  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma and three years’ work experience in a behavioral health related field, or equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
  • Upon recommendation for hire a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver’s license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to listen; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Extraordinary working conditions: May occasionally encounter potential volatile clients in a behavioral health setting; and regularly interacts with clients on a daily basis, some with HIV, Hepatitis, or other communicable diseases.
