Description

One 6 Month Contract - Crisis Response Worker - Safe Beds Program 

The Safe Bed program works collaboratively with our police Mobile Crisis Response Teams to divert persons in mental health and or addictions crisis from incarceration, and/or unnecessary hospitalization by providing them with voluntary community crisis accommodation and support. 

The worker will de-escalate and stabilize the initial crisis and connect this person with the services and the supports they need to enable stable community living that addresses their health and wellbeing. The Safe Bed worker will liaise with police services (York Regional Police, South Simcoe Police & Nottawasaga OPP) and Mobile Crisis Response teams to facilitate referrals to Safe Beds in York Region.

Day, Evening and Weekend Shifts

Position Requirements
  • Bachelors degeree in Social Work or related discipline (i.e. Health Sciences)
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • Knowledge and practice of short-term urgent response, psychosocial rehabilitation approach and advanced clinical, crisis and assessment skills are assets
  • Experience working with individuals having a serious mental illness is essential
  • Crisis skills for adults and children experiencing a mental health crisis are desirable
  • Completion of CPI, CPR and ASSIST training as per agency guidelines
  • Experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system is an asset
  • A second language is considered an assest
  • Knowledge of the local service system is essential
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a police clearance that meets agency standards
  • A valid G Driver's lincense, use of a reliable vehicle and appropriate insurance for business purposes are required for this position
