Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Highly motivated, self-starter responsible for maintaining and repairing fitness equipment, facility grounds and supporting overall facility maintenance. Responsible to ensure safety within the facility by promptly repairing non-functional equipment and conducting preventative maintenance on all equipment as well as coordinate and communicate general repairs and facility maintenance to the Facilities Engineer and General Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure equipment on the fitness floor is working properly. 90% of all fitness equipment operational at all times.
  • Ensure there are no unsafe conditions on the fitness floor resulting from broken equipment
  • Repair non-functional equipment in a timely manner
  • Support Facilities Engineer with maintaining the overall facility, including: small projects, painting/patching, pools, electrical work, heating/cooling components and grounds.
  • Complete 95% of all equipment repairs within 2 weeks or less when possible.
  • Maintain accurate and effective preventative maintenance on all fitness equipment per the manufacturer’s specifications in order to maintain the life of the equipment.
  • Perform and document regular inspections of all equipment.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and repairs in a cost effective manor by planning ahead and low cost bidding.
  • Perform Floor Care, Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets using power equipment, hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
  • Work with team to prioritize, plan and implement a capital equipment replacement plan.
  • Create and maintain an effective parts inventory to support the repair objectives.
  • Provide on call support in the absence of the Facilities Engineer.
  • Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, and pruning.
  • Ensure facilities grounds are clean and safe; clean-up of leaves and trash, removing snow and debris from sidewalk, spreading salt as necessary, etc.
  • Understand and interpret the YWCA Mission and Imperative to members, employees, and guests as appropriate.

ADMINISTRATION:

  • Effectively report with checklists, building logs, equipment logs, inspections, preventative maintenance records, then follow with effective solutions to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Monitor repair status and effectively communicate with signage.
  • Effectively track all repair and maintenance costs.
  • Work with fitness team to Identify and implement an equipment improvement plan that supports current trends and provides support to membership growth.
  • Effectively communicate with vendors practicing a 24 hour service call policy in order to minimize downtime.
  • Attend all department and facility meetings and/or trainings.
  • Provide leadership during shift to support building operations, including member conflict resolution, maintenance issues, and staff support.
  • Perform closing procedures.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Midtown Facilities Engineer with who reports to the General Manager who reports to the Vice President of Health and Wellness. The incumbent will interact with all levels of the Health and Fitness Department. Critical relationships will include, Coordinator and MOD’s.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Three to four years facility maintenance experience or equivalent training
  • Work independently or as a team

Preferred:

  • Trade or Technical School degree
  • Experience working with fitness equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Certified Pool Operator
  • CPR/AED certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Regularly required to walk.
  • Occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high, precarious places.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particle, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high, precarious places.
