TITLE: Research Engineer

STATUS: Temporary, Full-Time (1.00 FTE)

START DATE: Flexible start date

END DATE: 1-year contract 

SUPERVISOR: Azadeh Kushki

PROGRAM: Bloorview Research Institute

 

The Autism Research Centre at Bloorview Research Institute, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a research engineer with expertise in machine learning/data science. He/she/they will perform data analyses for clinical research studies focused on improving the understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions and contribute to development of technology-based supports for children. In that context, he/she/they will collaborate with research staff, engineers, clinicians, and third-party researchers and laboratories.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform data analyses for clinical research studies. Analyses may include cleaning/aggregating large datasets, visualizing data, statistical analysis, signal processing, machine learning, etc.
  • Ensure data quality for physiological data, identify and address causes of poor signal quality
  • Support setup of devices and software used for data collection
  • Prepare manuscripts, specifically methods and results sections
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary team, provide updates during weekly meetings
  • Manage multiple on-going projects
  • Maintaining the privacy and security of data being analyzed by following hospital best practices and procedures

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science
  • Research-based or data science related Master's degree or PhD, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency with R and Python (ability to independently write clean and well commented code for data analysis and maintain code repositories)
  • Familiarity with statistical, signal processing, and machine learning methods
  • Experience analysing clinical research data, such as:
  •      - Physiological signals (PPG, ECG, EDA, etc.)
  •      - Clinical assessment measures (IQ, etc.)
  •      - Survey data (Likert scales, etc.)
  •      - Clinical imaging data (MRI, etc.)
  • Experience communicating research results, including written (e.g., manuscript preparation) and oral (presentations, team meetings)
