Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.
Emergency Services provides 24 hours a day 7 days a week emergency response for psychiatric crisis in the cities of Hampton and Newport News. Crisis Counselors work with our local law enforcement, magistrates, community partners, and local Hospitals (Emergency Rooms and Behavioral Health) to assess for immediate psychiatric intervention, including issuance of Temporary Detention Orders (TDO) for individuals in need of mandated treatment in a psychiatric hospital. Crisis Counselors also offer consultation and assist with triage to other less restrictive treatment options as appropriate.
The Service Coordinator performs activities supporting operations fo the Emergency Services department response to provide crisis assessments and intervention services. Performs triage and coordination of incoming crisis calls, collaborates with a diverse range of professionals working with individuals during the course of crises (emergency room, law enforcement, magistrate, psychiatric hospitals, and behavioral health providers). Monitors status of psychiatric hospital bed space, conducts comprehensive bed searches. Collaborates with the Emergency Services Counselor and assist with the facilitation of referrals for admission to behavioral health treatment services. Provides follow-up and monitoring of disposition, coordinates with psychiatric and medical providers for updates, and facilitate transfer and placement.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services (Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling) with one (1) year experience in psychiatric care setting including case management services, counseling, direct care and crisis intervention functions. QMHP-A Preferred.
Valid Virginia Driver's License.
