Roles & Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Assists medical staff as necessary in providing skilled and safe nursing care to assigned patients.
  • Obtains vital signs and brief history from patients in an accurate and consistent manner.
  • Responds in an appropriate manner to any abnormal vitals.
  • Performs patient care techniques as assigned in an effective manner under the direct supervision of an LPN, RN or Provider and in accordance with the provider treatment plan.
  • Orients/refers patients to Center program services as appropriate; effectively answers any questions from patients within his/her authority regarding Center services.
  • Maintains patient flow through the facility
  • Ensures the cleanliness and safety of patient care areas by appropriately maintaining examination rooms according to Center policies and procedures.
  • Educates patients and family members on the patient’s diagnoses within scope of knowledge and authority.
  • Utilizes available time in a productive manner by proactively assisting coworkers and providers.
  • Provides interpretation/translation services to our patients and their families as needed and requested.
  • Treats all patients with dignity and respect at all times; communicates with patients in a professional and courteous manner to promote superior customer service.

 

Clinical Skills

  • Carries out skills appropriate to patient population served within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates ability to use equipment according to nursing and equipment procedures and consistent with department protocol.
  • Assists providers with treatments as appropriate.
  • Follows established standards of care when performing or assisting with procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to care for patients as assigned.
  • Interprets vital signs, and responds appropriately, reporting abnormalities to the provider.
  • Exhibits clinical competence by correctly performing required skills to include injections, phlebotomy, blood and urine samples, and other skills associated with being a certified MA.

 

Administrative Duties

  • Performs various duties to ensure quality patient care, excellent patient flow, and efficiency of operations within the nursing department.
  • Participates in Center projects, initiatives, and/or committees as requested.
  • Monitors medical supplies to ensure that the department has the appropriate materials to provide efficient and effective service.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork in a timely and legible manner.
  • Completes thorough pre-visit review of charts as assigned to ensure that he/she has the knowledge and resources to effectively treat the patient.
  • Keeps professional certifications active, current status and renews timely.
  • Performs chart audits as directed by the Manager and in an accurate fashion.
  • Coordinates any test scheduling and appointments between patients and other departments and/or medical care providers accordingly.
  • Ensures that appropriate consent forms are signed, and reviews forms associated with different programs to ensure that all paperwork is in order.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications & Education Requirement

  • Must possess high school diploma or GED. Successful completion of a certified Medical Assistant program required. CPR required. Medical Assistant certification is required. Minimum of two years clinical experience at an acute care or ambulatory setting preferred. Community or public health experience highly preferred. English/Spanish fluency highly preferred.

  • Demonstrates flexibility, open mindedness, and versatility in adjusting to changing environments and requirements as necessary.
  • Commits to continually improving his/her skills through participation in educational opportunities whether offered on the job, within, or outside of the facility, to increase knowledge of work-related issues.
  • Always maintains a positive attitude when working with provider and willingly assists provider as needed in contributing to HW achieving maximum customer satisfaction.

Physical Demands

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Reasonable accommodations are provided according to the American Disabilities Act.

Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.
  • Potential for working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

  • Risk of exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Requires Health Care Worker Vaccinations including mandatory influenza vaccination.
