The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Director and President of the Academy Museum, the Chief of Staff will be a trusted advisor, providing high-level strategic and administrative support and insight, guiding initiatives with organization-wide impact, along with overseeing and maximizing the effective operations of the executive office. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure priority projects and strategic objectives are met. Keeping both the Director and senior leaders informed of issues and initiatives, you will play a critical role in the efficient flow of information across the Museum. You will also be the primary liaison and administrator of the Academy Museum Board of Trustees.

In addition, you will ensure the Directors time is leveraged effectively, by engaging the right participants, setting the agenda, and ensuring the Director is well prepared. This is a highly strategic and facilitative role that requires a combination of focus, flexibility, and interpersonal savviness. The role requires and rewards a highly resourceful individual with strong emotional intelligence, motivation, and analytical skills.

You Will:

  • Manage the functions of the executive office and supervise administrative support staff.
  • Drive cross departmental and multi-entity strategic initiatives from ideation to implementation as directed by the Director and President, and in collaboration with the executive team.
  • Work with the Director and President to deliver, monitor and communicate progress towards goals.
  • Identify and provide recommendations on improvements across the organization.
  • Oversee board-related calendar and activities in partnership with the Director and President, and in coordination with committee staff liaisons, including logistics, reporting and correspondence, training, orientation, meetings, record management, and events.
  • Implement and execute positive and effective communication strategies with staff, board and committee members, donors, partners, and other stakeholders to keep them engaged and informed.
  • Respond to inquiries and communicate on behalf of the Director and President, including board-related correspondence, emulating the directors voice for a large volume of communications, including remarks at special events, meeting talking points, and materials for various speaking engagements involving internal and external audiences.
  • Represent the Director and President in meetings, as required.
  • Provide department leaders with recommendations and consultation to improve efficiency and teamwork.
  • Plan, coordinate and lead meetings and workshops.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A master’s degree in Business Administration or similar field.
  • 7+ years in a business or executive management role.
  • Proven experience organizing and directing multiple teams and departments.
  • Impeccable communication skills in written and verbal forms.
  • Extremely versatile and dedicated to efficient productivity.
  • Experience planning and leading strategic initiatives.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • A balanced orientation towards results and good process.
  • Interpersonal savvy and organizational agility; ability to influence up, down, and across.
  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity.
