About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

VCSB is looking for a new Developmental Services Support Coordinator to join our team to provide ongoing community assistance to individuals with intellectional and/or developmental disabilities and their families who reside in Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta County or Highland County. As a member of a passionate, collaborative team, the Developmental Services Support Coordinator is responsible for guiding the individuals on their caseload through the identification and development of community based services, monitoring satisfaction, and assisting individuals to receive the support/services and general assistance they need and desire to enjoy a high quality of life in their chosen community.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with the family, friends, and service providers of the individual receiving services to support the needs, desires, and interests of the individual.
  • Initiates and drives the development of person-centered planning through a combination of formal and informal assessments.
  • Makes referrals to and helps the individual apply for requested services and supports identified through the person-centered plan and shared planning documents.
  • Advocates for the highest-possible degree of choice for the individuals receiving services in all pertinent matters.
  • Partners with individuals receiving services to foster a high degree of satisfaction with their services.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Current certification as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP).
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field.
  • At least one year of experience providing services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and concepts of intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as least-restrictive environment, dignity of risk, community participation and integration, and total inclusion.
  • Basic human needs.
  • Personal and family dynamics.
  • Local community services and resources.
  • Person-centered planning, including the planning process and major components.
  • Medicaid, Medicaid Waiver, human rights, and applicable regulations regarding licensure.
  • Responsibilities of providers.
  • Appropriate professional behavior.

Skills Pertaining to:

  • Negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
  • Observation, recording, and reporting on an individual's abilities, gifts, and desires.
  • Utilization of assessment tools to develop service plans.
  • Identfying and documenting an individual's need for resources, services, and other supports, and linking the individual to services within their community.
  • Coordinating the provision of services by a diverse network of public and private service providers.
  • Interpration of regulations, guidelines, policies, and practices from various sources.
  • Crisis prevention, intervention, and stabilization.
  • Prioritization.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication.

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate positive, friendly regard for individuals with varying levels of ability and need, their families, and other members of their support network.
  • Effectively communicate in a manner that protects the rights and dignity of all individuals.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality.
  • Exercise sound judgment.
  • Work independently.
  • Quickly adapt to change.
  • Ensure that individuals receiving services are the primary focus for the position.
  • Contribute to the work of a highly collaborative and supportive team.
  • Develop and maintain productive professional relationships with VCSB employees and external partners.
 
Salary Information Salary is negotiable based on relevant experience. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus.
