Description

The Mechanic II - Field Service is responsible for maintenance of fleet equipment and trucks. This position requires all trucks and equipment to be kept in good working order, organizing necessary repairs to keep equipment and trucks working consistently in the field. The Heavy Duty Mechanic responds in a timely fashion to request for repairs, both scheduled and unscheduled, by assessing needs within time constraints.  Thir role will also be going out into the field and running a Field Service Truck.

 
Position Requirements

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults and malfunctions of trucks and equipment in a timely fashion.
  • Perform necessary repairs or replacements to maintain the working order of all trucks and equipment.
  • Completes DOT Annual Inspections and Preventive Maintenance on vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
  • Overhauls and repairs, clutch systems, brake systems, charging systems starter systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, electrical systems, and other major components of vehicles and equipment.
  • Keeps detailed paperwork both manually and electronically concerning repairs and maintenance.
  • Makes recommendations, based on expertise, concerning repair or replacement of equipment and vehicles.
  • Responds to requests for repairs, scheduled and unscheduled in a timely fashion.
  • Does repair work in the field, as well as in the shop during all weather conditions.
  • Responsible for ensuring that service truck is well stocked with necessary items to effectively repair trucks and equipment in the field when necessary, by identifying source of mechanical failure.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license

Job Qualifications/Experience:

  • Skilled in the repair of light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, heavy equipment, small engines, hydro excavators, and specialized construction equipment.
  • Skilled in repair and/or replacement of electrical systems, hydraulic systems, engine repair, clutch work, differentials, and air systems.
  • Ability to use computer-based vehicle and equipment electronic diagnosis software.
  • Ability to weld with MIG and Stick welding process.
  • Ability to function under time constraints.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and prioritize work as necessary.
  • Good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen and DOT regulations when hired.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years working as a Line Mechanic (may substitute graduation from an automotive or diesel training program for some of the experience).
  • Must have own tools.
  • CDL-A is required within 90 days of being hired.

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
