About the Organization Easterseals Louisiana (ESL) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people's lives everyday. Established in 1951, our organization supports over 8,600 individuals (whom we refer to as Participants) with a variety of disabilities. A leading provider of disability services, ESL has physical locations in 8 regions of Louisiana and our array of programs include; support coordination (case management) for children, adults and elderly participants, a wide range of behavioral health and housing services, early intervention services for infants and toddlers, and a school setting called The Chartwell Center in New Orleans.

Mission & Vision:

The Chartwell Center became a program of Easterseals Louisiana in 2021.Easterseals Louisiana is a non-profit organization whose mission is to assist children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities achieve independence. It is our vision to be recognized as an organization that transforms communities and engages all members through quality service, knowledge, and compassion. The purpose of Chartwell is to aid individuals with autism spectrum and related disorders by providing educational services and therapy, and by offering training and support to parents, teacher, and other professionals. Founded in 1999 by concerned and dedicated parents, the school’s goal is to help its students not only survive but thrive in the outside world.

 

Job Description (include, but are not limited to):

Student Responsibilities:

  • Utilize professional skills including planning, assessment and reflection when preparing for and delivering lessons and activities within a curriculum that are assessable and inclusive to all students
  • Work in small group settings (2:1 or 3:1 student teacher ratio) while simultaneously targeting individualized academic/ IEP goals
  • Collect academic data daily
  • Modify and create new data sheets accordingly
  • Prepare and distribute progress reports on a quarterly basis (every 6 weeks, in accordance with the sending school calendars)
  • Assess student progress regularly using data to create annual IEP goals
  • Attend and participate in collaborative meetings with OPSB school personnel, parents and additional service providers as needed and required
  • Lead IEP meetings with appropriate Chartwell administrative members, OPSB staff, additional service providers (OT, ALE, SLP) and parents as required and needed
  • Send weekly service logs to designate OBSB personnel
  • Meet regularly with BCBA attend and participate in weekly classroom meetings
  • Implement individualized ABA behavioral protocols while performing the duties of the teacher
  • Be open to implement feedback from assigned supervisors
  • Discuss necessary information with administrative team member(s), supervising BCBA and classroom coworkers

  • Set and work toward ambitious behavioral and vocational goals
  • Use feedback from supervision to improve mentorship practices
  • Meet weekly with team members to discuss current plans, barriers to progress, and potential solutions for increasing progress and guaranteeing treatment integrity
  • Deliver community-based instruction and workplace oversight
  • Collect and use observational data
  • Engage families and community members in the learning process
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to implement and reinforce all components of a consistently positive, creative and solutions-oriented school culture
 
Position Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education (special Education Preferred) or equivalent
  • A commitment to fulfill the school’s mission and vision
  • A passion for helping children and adults with learning differences
  • Experience working with children and/or adults with autism
  • Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis
  • The desire to be part of a true Professional Learning Community
  • Flexibility, patience, perception and empathy
  • A “Can-Do” attitude
  • Show respect and courtesy to students, parents, and colleagues
  • Accept feedback from supervisors in a polite and constructive manner
  • Communicate effectively to students, parents, and colleagues
  • Maintain confidential information about students and their families
  • Act as a positive role model and representative of Chartwell both at Chartwell and in the community
  • A strong desire to increase instructional efficacy by receiving and implementing feedback
  • An unwavering commitment to help each of our young learners excel behaviorally, academically, emotionally and socially

 

Qualifications:

Salary Range: $32,000-34,000
