The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, digital experiences, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Reporting to the VP, Digital Content and Strategy, you will work with Museum staff, on-site talent, and other stakeholders across the organization to produce videos for the Museum’s digital platforms and archives. In coordination with the VP, you will define the scope and deliverables of each production project and independently manage productions from inception through post-production and digital asset documentation.

You Will:

  • Work with Museum staff across various departments on video projects that may include program documentation, interviews, exhibition, and museum related storytelling.
  • Respond to video requests submitted through ticketing sites and coordinate production with relevant stakeholders.
  • Estimate production requirements (including equipment and crew), evaluate copyright requirements, coordinate licensing agreements, as well as obtain and document talent release forms.
  • Direct video productions ranging from single-camera productions to multi-camera field and studio productions. This includes interacting with and guiding internal stakeholders, subjects/talent, and others through the production process.
  • Operate and/or direct the operation of professional cameras, audio equipment, lighting equipment and related equipment to effectively record a variety of program materials.
  • Recommend minor and/or major production changes to obtain the most appropriate and effective materials.
  • Edit and/or direct the editing of recorded video, audio, and other materials to meet time, aesthetic, ethical and broadcast quality standards.
  • Create and/or guide the creation of graphics and soundtracks.
  • Operate and/or oversee the operation of a variety of post-production equipment including nonlinear computer-based editing systems, tapeless devices, and video/audio interfaces.
  • Operate and/or oversee the use of a variety of post-production software applications for video editing, audio editing, graphics creation, compositing, compressing, encoding/transcoding, and captioning.
  • Create and document master files for preservation following the Museum’s guidelines on archiving of video assets for storage and access.
  • Maintain and/or oversee the maintenance and organization of video production equipment and post-production equipment and software.
  • Research, request, and implement new video production technologies.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on production schedule, locations, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment and oversee the testing of cameras, tapeless media, microphones, lights, video monitors, and related equipment.
  • Deliver video assets and related materials for a variety of distribution channels.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Film/Video Production, Journalism, Television Production, Media Arts, or related area. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • 5+ years of experience producing educational or documentary videos in a collaborative environment required. This includes organizing, managing and scheduling productions, operating video production equipment, planning, and executing post-production.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, Aftereffects, Photoshop, and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Independent problem solving and project management.
