OEC is currently accepting applications for Applications Administrator. This is a full-time position located at OEC headquarters in Norman, OK.

OEC is a nonprofit electric cooperative and is owned by those we serve—our members. We work for our members, not for distant investors. That means any revenue we make in excess of the cost to do business is returned to our members—similar to profits made by investor-owned utilities being distributed among their shareholders. OEC strives to be our members’ trusted, preferred energy provider and impactful community partner.

The Applications Administrator is responsible for customizing, implementing, maintaining applications to assist in accomplishing OEC’s business objectives. This position collaborates with others to gain understanding of business needs and customizes solutions using existing desktop, web, and mobile applications. They maintain reliable operation of multiple applications and strive to identify and address issues proactively. This position works closely with all Cooperative personnel.

Responsibilities include:

  • Modifies and implements web, desktop, and mobile applications for use by employees, contractors, members, and subscribers.
    • Performs testing at various stages to assess functionality and use.
    • Assesses and maintains the integration and functionality among multiple applications, customizing as needed.
    • May occasionally write new code and modify existing code.
  • Collaborates with others to identify and analyze needs, processes, and existing software.
    • Converses with and observes users to gain understanding of business and department current needs and anticipate future needs.
  • Monitors and assesses performance of various applications and systems.
    • Proactively monitors, tests, and analyzes applications to identify potential problems and solutions.
    • Schedules and facilitates updates and upgrades, performing tests to ensure successful implementation.
    • Converses with users to ensure continued functionality and effectiveness, addressing issues as needed.
    • Communicates scheduled systems downtime and other relevant matters to users, minimizing impact of downtime when possible (e.g., scheduling downtime outside of business hours).
  • Trains users on functionality and use of applications and systems.
    • Creates training documents and user guides as needed.
  • Responds to all work requests in a timely manner.
  • Assists Enterprise Applications team with custom reports as needed.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of activities, procedures, software, and equipment within the department.
  • Researches and recommends new, upgraded, and/or modifications to related applications, software, and equipment.
    • Assesses the current systems and the feasibility of changes and integration.
  • Collaborates with others in the department and Cooperative in other duties as needed.

Ideal candidates meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year experiences OR Associate's degree and 3 years' experience
    • Experience should be of a progressively increasing responsibility with application/software development or related area.
    • Education should be in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with end users and other stakeholders
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of computer systems and applications technologies, such as SQL and VBA
  • Working knowledge of application/software development techniques and tools
  • Working knowledge of hardware and software platforms, such as operating systems, databases, application servers, web servers, and integration technologies
  • Skill in: using logic and reasoning to identify strengths/weaknesses of alternative approaches; determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions and operations will affect outcomes; identifying complex problems and reviewing related info to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Ability to: develop creative ways to solve a problem; concentrate on a task over a period of time; quickly and accurately compare similarities and differences among sets of items
  • Qualities of: being careful about detail and thorough in completing tasks; being open to change and considerable variety in the workplace; willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges
