The Optical Networking & Sensing Department of NEC Laboratories America, Inc. (www.nec-labs.com) in Princeton, NJ is seeking a Researcher to participate in the research and development of data-driven social infrastructure solutions based on cutting edge optical sensing and AI technologies. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, show critical thinking and fast learning ability in their approach to problem solving. Our research leads to both award-winning NEC products and publications in top conferences.
Job Duties:
• Research, develop, train, implement and evaluate machine learning models and new algorithms
• Process and analyze data generated from the various sensing and IoT hardware
• Assess business /customer requirements and translate into data acquisition hardware and software specifications
• Collaborate closely with data scientists, engineering teams, data architects, platform developers to develop data-integration solutions, from low layer/physical system to sensing and data design and handling

• PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics/Optics, Statistics, or a related technical field of study
• Strong mathematical, statistical, and programmatic knowledge
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, data mining, computer vision, high-performance computing, advanced signal processing, and/or neuromorphic computing
• Domain knowledge in physics, acoustics, communication, and/or optics is a plus
• Development/Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or other languages
