Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for implementing automation and technology solutions that improve productivity, quality, and financial performance. Leads multiple initiatives/activities and interfaces with all levels of the organization.

Research new product ideas, methods, and practices relating to company products based on marketing and engineering directives; initialize development or co-develop technologies that will have direct application to control products; provide technology transfer, as needed, to Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality Control departments. Evaluates manufacturing / assembly processes to identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement through the application of automation and technology solutions. Develops and implements solutions through collaboration with suppliers and through internally developed design solutions. Justifies project investment through detailed financial analysis to assure ROI is achieved. Manages projects to assure adherence to budget, timely execution, performance criteria achieved, and to provide resource coordination between various outside contractors and production / support teams. Assures customer specific requirements and change management approvals are supported during project implementation. Develops appropriate documentation, standard work, and training protocols to assure implemented projects are supported and sustainable upon transfer to operations team.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, plan, source and implement automation solutions including robotics, conveyors, scanners, vision systems, PLC's, etc …
  • Analysis of labor and process inefficiencies.
  • Coordinate development of automation requirements specifications.
  • Robot and machine vision hardware integration and design.
  • Coordinate, program and maintain programs for machine vision, robots, PLC's etc … including modifications to existing programs.
  • Provide input to process PFMEA generation.
  • Project management - scheduling, budget, supplier communications.
  • Project financial analysis - cost savings projections, required investment, ROI.
  • Risks identification and mitigation for technical feasibility, financial, and schedule performance targets.
  • Benchmark automation and technology advances as means to address emerging opportunities within the business and to improve legacy automation solutions.
  • Prepares and maintains test, training, operation and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Assures compliance with health, safety and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Perform all other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

  • BS Engineering or higher strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in design and integration of automation solutions, Vision inspection and robotics experience preferred.
  • CAD, PLC, HMI, robotics, and automation programming experience.
  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize workload to ensure deliverables are met for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Project.
  • Working knowledge of statistical techniques, data analysis and root cause analysis tools.
  • High level of personal initiative. Able to work with general objectives regarding projects and team goals; independently analyze data and apply decision criteria to develop a prioritized work plan.
  • Robust interpersonal, listening, questioning, and communication skills. Effectively communicate project status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision.
  • Experienced in presentation of project proposals seeking funding approval and milestone reviews to leadership teams.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment. Responsive to inquiries from other engineering and business teams.
  • Ability to train others.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Has direct reports.

Job Related Demands (I.E, physical, travel):

  • Occasional travel for meetings or training.
  • Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects.
  • Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Maintenance of professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional associations.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs. following company safe lifting protocol.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals.
