CHC is seeking a Registered Dietitian to work with patients at the Scott County Women Infant and Children WIC Program based in our clinics.

POSITION SUMMARY: Completes nutrition assessment and develops and implements nutrition plan of care based upon the principles of clinical dietetics. Counsels and educations families enrolled in the WIC program. This position performs regular duties at all clinic sites and at alternative sites under the direction of the WIC Coordinator.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Functions as the competent professional authority (CPA) for determination of program eligibility and certification; assessment of individual anthropometric, biochemical, health, and dietary data
  • Certifies or denies participation in program based on nutrition risk
  • Collects, documents, and maintains wichealth.org client participation for on-line nutrition education
  • Schedules and reschedules clinic appointments
  • Accurately enters data in IWIN
  • Obtains current address and phone number for all program participants at each contact visit
  • Answers questions from clients, vendors, and community partners about program guidelines
  • Maintains data system equipment
  • Performs daily data synchronization in IWIN with state office daily; upload completed monthly
  • Reports equipment and data system issues to the WIC help desk
  • Trains new dietitian and nutrition educator employees
  • Attends required trainings; participants in advisory committees
  • Refers clients to community partners as necessary, ie. Food pantries
  • Develops nutrition care plans utilizing OARS model for essential communication with participants
  • Counsels and educates clients on healthy eating and therapeutic diet strategies
  • Provides nutrition education counseling; group setting or 1:1; in-depth counseling as needed or requested by program participant
  • Maintains special formula medical documentation log binder
  • Documents nutrition education received for participants in IWIN
  • Tailors program food package to best meet individual dietary needs of participant
  • Explains rights and responsibilities to program participants in accordance with state and federal guidelines
  • Constructs lesson plans for nutrition education classes and educational materials needed
  • Promotes and supports breastfeeding; refers participants to breastfeeding peer counselor program
  • Documents breastfeeding issues, concerns and contacts and any data changes to peer counselors or peer counselor Coordinator
  • Records breastfeeding pump issuance in IWIN and in breast pump log binder
  • Stays current on nutrition and WIC recommendations by attending continuing education opportunities and WIC conference
  • Maintains dietetics registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Synchronize data to state WIC office daily; upload monthly
  • Program Planning and Administrative Duties:
  • Assists with program promotion and evaluation
  • Assists in writing the nutrition education and breastfeeding action plans for the RFA/RFP grant application process
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of CHC’s Mission Statement in performing all aspects of this position.
  • Demonstrates a caring and helpful attitude when interacting with patients, vendors, and fellow employees. Strives to build cooperative partnerships, by treating each person both inside and outside of the organization as a customer.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other clinic personnel.
  • Handles confidential information with tact and desecration on a need-to-know basis as specified in CHC’s Personnel Policies
  • Participates in maintaining departmental continuous quality improvement.
  • Follows established policies and procedures for safety, infection and exposure control.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
