Casa Convent is dedicated in a special way to the care of our senior sisters. All our lay staff helps us to protect and enhance our Carmelite spiritual and communal life as it is lived by the sisters in this local community.

Job Title: Maintenance Worker- Full Time

Mission Statement: To stand in the presence of the Living God, and with Mary, make known to the world the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Purpose of Position: Provides maintenance services required for the safe and efficient operation of the plant. Executes planned repairs, minor installations and replacement. Maintains equipment in a satisfactory condition for safe operation and follows through on planned maintenance program under the direction of the CEO.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests and repairs as assigned.
  • Install light bulbs, doors, cabinets, paneling, carpet and bulletin boards.
  • Paint interior and exterior walls and cabinets; hang wallpaper and pictures; assemble furniture.
  • Set-up and install computer cables as needed; install and repair computer outlets; repair and relocate light fixtures. Replace washers, faucets, and seals on malfunctioning plumbing equipment; repair leaky faucets and clear clogged drains; install and repair sprinklers.
  • Monitor and maintain all building systems as assigned.
  • Maintain efficient functioning of the boilers and water softeners; add chemicals or salt as needed.
  • Repair plumbing, machinery and electrical circuitry.
  • Work within expense limits established.
  • Maintain inventory controls for cost effective operations.
  • Mitigate and report possible unsafe conditions. Responsible for alerting the CEO of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that has occurred or that may occur.
  • Schedule and complete the preventive maintenance program.
  • Coordinate special projects as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Assist in monitoring all work performed by outside contractors.
  • Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as scheduled.
  • Carry pager/cell phone as required for on-call maintenance.
  • Complete grounds work as directed by the Supervisor, which may include picking up trash, sweeping curb and dumpster areas and maintaining landscaping beds and other areas.
  • Keep proper maintenance records for work completed.
  • Run errands and pick up parts / equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous manner with all residents, guests, vendors, contractors and fellow staff members.
  • Exhibit appropriate telephone protocol.
  • Assure safety standards are used which comply with all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines.
  • Lead Casas Illness, Injury and Prevention Plan and coordinate safety trainings with the Support Team supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance of all work related activities in a fair, ethical and consistent manner.
  • Contribute to team effort.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all residents according to HIPAA regulations.
  • Follow established company policies and those outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Special projects and responsibilities / tasks as determined by CEO.
  • Follow all Safety Guidelines set forth by the Company and adhere to OSHA standards and requirements.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the individual job duty.

 

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Basic principles and techniques of plumbing, wood finishing, painting, electricity and carpentry.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of mechanical equipment, plumbing, electrical circuitry and tools used in the area of work assigned.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment and supplies used in providing comprehensive building maintenance services.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions/practices necessary for the area of work assigned.
  • Knowledge of basic fire safety and building codes.
  • Identify problems and implement solutions.
  • Operate pallet jack and forklift.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted within the course of work.
  • Driver license and Live Scan clearance.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the individual job duty.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • This position spends approximately 85% of the day working outside or in and around the facilities and the remaining time in an office setting in front of a computer. Must be able to be on feet and move constantly throughout the workday. Requires frequent walking of the 5 acre campus.
  • Must be able to see and hear with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, crouch, and reach overhead in the course of their normal duties.
  • Must be able to use hand/wrist coordination with or without accommodation
  • Must be able to climb a ladder of at least 10 feet.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or exert force of 50-100 lbs occasionally, 25-50 lbs frequently and 10-20 lbs constantly with or without accommodation.
  • Must have good vision for close up work with tools and computer work (with or without the aid of eye glasses or contact lenses)
  • Must be able to speak and communicate verbally with co-workers, customers, vendors, etc.
