SUMMARY
Directs and coordinates research and development activities and the planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Follows all ISO 9001 Procedures and Work Instructions in the performance of these duties.
Manages and coordinates APG contacts for research and development through vendor, customer, and university contacts.
Manages and coordinates the design and modification of tooling through external tooling vendors and internal Tool Design Engineers to investigate ways to improve tool and product design through FEA design techniques.
Confers with engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Manages and coordinates product and process corrective actions through the Process Engineer.
Coordinates material selection and improvements.
Represents APG at trade association meetings to promote products.
Assists customers with new product development. Confers with customers to suggest design changes to improve performance, reliability, and/or reduce cost.
Provides technical support to national sales representatives.
Assists in product design, review, and evaluation through the Contract Review Team.
Responsible for ensuring that proper equipment and well-trained people are available to perform the above tasks.
Responsible for all long-range planning for the department.
Ensure all safety practices are followed by all APG employees.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises Product, Process and Manufacturing Engineer(s) and Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
