Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. The college seeks to prepare students to serve Christ and the world in all areas of society, including work, family, and the church. Geneva is a founding member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).

Description

Summary of Responsibilities: This position has dual responsibilities for supervision of the events team and the coordination and hands-on set-up of all on-campus events; ensuring that events are done with a sense of Christian hospitality that is befitting to Geneva College.

 

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. Supervision
    1. Provides leadership and supervision to the events staff, including planning, coaching, improvement assessment, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    2. Provide leadership in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, fosters an attitude of hospitality and service, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.
    3. Reviews and approves timecards for members of the Events staff.
    4. Supervises student employees to include training, planning, scheduling, assigning, and directing work, coaching, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    5. Reviews and approves student timecards.
  2. Event Set-Up
    1. Executes event work orders and ensures that rooms/areas are properly set-up and ready for meetings, special classes, dinners, events, camps, and conferences, etc., in a timely manner.
    2. Coordinates event set-ups with Event Planner and Events Scheduler.
    3. With the assistance of student workers, physically sets up all tables, chairs, staging, pipe, and drape, etc. for events.
    4. Coordinates delivery of physical resources (staging, tables, etc.) not normally kept in event venue with Physical Plant, as needed.
    5. Provides on-site coordination, which includes problem solving, decision making and interaction with internal and external customers.
    6. Tracks and maintains inventory of event related physical resources. Makes recommendations on the replacement of worn or damaged resources.
    7. Organizes distribution of linens for camps, as needed. Collects, launders, and maintains inventory of linens.
    8. Coordinates over-night camp room assignments with Residence Life and Facilities to ensure that rooms are available and cleaned prior to and after camps.
  3. Audio Visual for Events
    1. Provide AV support for all required campus events
    2. Schedule daily Audio-Visual equipment and staff for all campus events.
    3. Responsible to ensure proper transport, setup, and operation of AV equipment at various locations through the campus and offsite locations. Each location will be setup and tested to ensure a quality event. Equipment will be adjusted, and techniques employed to optimize audio and video clarity.
    4. Responsible for the proper functioning of recording devices as well as performing editing to create a professional end product, both live and archived, meeting the College’s needs for disseminating information.
    5. Responsible to provide trained staff to serve as technical director, remote camera operator, video switcher, stage lighting director, microphone-audio technician for campus events.
    6. Operate in a lead technician capacity, trouble-shooting quality of service issues for a smooth operation of live events. Distribute and monitor internet broadcast meetings.
    7. Ensures all AV event production requests are completed accurately in a timely manner.
    8. Functions as a liaison between AV and Geneva College departments providing information updates regarding production.
    9. Coordinates with Information Technology Services when solutions and assistance are needed for improved performance and to ensure appropriate communication to point of product delivery.
    10. Acts as a Mentor to and trains student employees in proper AV methods, tools, and operation of higher-end AV equipment.
    11. Meet and greet presenters in a professional manner. Demonstrate operation of equipment, offering instruction and advice in layman's terms as necessary.
    12. Handle equipment emergencies as quickly and effectively as possible with minimum interruption to the event.
    13. Perform preventive and basic maintenance on all production equipment, including cleaning.
    14. Responsible to ensure that AV office and backstage areas neat and clean, all supplies and equipment neatly stored, organized, and inventoried.
    15. Continues education through online, classroom-based, and/or CD courses, in addition to in-house training
    16. Provide a mechanism for customer feedback and follow-up to ensure future performance, promptly report all negative feedback to the President of Geneva College Foundation/the Vice President of Institutional Advancement
  4. Financial Management
    1. Works within established operating budget for purchases as well as student labor workforce.
  5. Safety
    1. Ensures that set-ups do not violate code requirements for venue capacity and emergency egress.
    2. Ensure that student employees are trained on and comply with safe lifting and work practices.
  6. Miscellaneous
    1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements - Labor:

Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting. Regular lifting. Able to lift up to 50lbs.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: BA/BS degree in Business or related field
    2. Experience: Minimum of two years combined experience in events/audio visual support
    3. Skill/Abilities: Computer literate with the ability to learn and become proficient with scheduling software. Knowledge and skills in AV technologies and the ability to configure and operate AV equipment, including PCs and laptops, LCD projectors, video conferencing units, basic auditorium control room functions, microphones, and audio equipment. Demonstrate principles of supervision and scheduling of students to support multiple events in the same day. Understand the principles and techniques used in the management and direction of work, including the development of goals and objectives, and planning and organizing work. Provide technical leadership in AV for events. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint.
    4. Christian Commitment: eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Education/Certification: A four-year degree in Instructional Technology or technology a plus.
    2. Experience: 5 years combined experience in event planning, audio visual/event support and/or customer service experience, preferably in a college or university setting. Two years of management experience.
    3. Skill/Abilities: Intuitively grasp familiar, stable system performance situations. Respond to unfamiliar, undefined, unexpected, or unstable situations with the professionally prescribed standard response. Recognize subtle problems with system design or performance and acts appropriately to improve the condition, seek validation of actions in advance as appropriate
