Position Description
The Center for Policing Equity is looking for a skilled Data Associate to join its Data-Driven Interventions program (DDI). The DDI team analyzes data on police behavior (e.g., stops, use of force, calls for service, etc.) to produce analyses that identify racial disparities in policing practices and opportunities for change in specific communities. The Data Associate will collaborate with colleagues across CPE to clean and standardize the law enforcement data that power the JusticeNavigator.org platform, among other CPE initiatives.
The Data Associate will be an integral part of DDI's Justice Navigator delivery model and will leverage their data science skill set to quickly and efficiently process messy data into the database. They should have an appetite for research and data discovery, meticulous attention to detail, and demonstrated experience with programmatic data cleaning and transformation (Python, SQL). They should be able to navigate technical specifications in a research plan, and be responsive to changes as our methodologies and tooling evolve in an agile work environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in working with law enforcement data, administrative data, or other similarly complex, varied datasets. They should have a passion and drive towards improving issues of racial inequity. This position will report to the Data Operations Manager.
