Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. Description

Geneva College invites applications for (1) part-time Nursing Faculty in the RN to BSN program. Available positions will begin August 2022 and will remain open, until filled. Minority and female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

JOB SUMMARY:

Geneva College invites applications for (1) part-time Nursing Faculty in the RN to BSN program. Available positions will begin August 2022. The selected candidates will teach classes on an as-needed basis. Position is available for both online and on-campus instruction for nursing classes in both Fall and Spring semesters.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for providing quality instruction in various bachelor level nursing courses to students through well prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, and clear documentation of student progress. The successful candidate must be committed to fulfilling all requirements of the assigned course(s).

Responsibilities for Nursing Instruction:

  1. Contribute to students’ reported satisfaction with having met student learning outcomes.
  2. Teach courses according to Geneva College policies.
  3. Teach courses as scheduled for each academic semester. Courses may be online or on-campus.
  4. Participate in on-line training and learning management system (LMS) training according to policy; includes content related to design, platform, and on-line pedagogy.
  5. Use current LMS system for gradebook, posting syllabi, weekly course content, assignments, and student communication.
  6. In collaboration with Department Chair, assess student learning through program outcomes.
  7. Provide a complete syllabus as formatted by the nursing department and consistent with College syllabus requirements.
  8. Provide the Department Chair with a Syllabus before posting for final approval.
  9. Follow current course curriculum design, including curriculum content, evaluation, and assessments, grading rubrics, course objectives, textbook, and syllabus requirement format.
  10. Provide students with instructional support and clearly stated office hours availability.
  11. Refer students, when appropriate to student support services.
  12. Maintain Grade records as required by the College.
  13. Maintain all course-related materials according to College policy.
  14. Maintain attendance records as required by the College.
  15. Follow College policies and procedures to resolve and document student complaints and concerns.
  16. Maintain high level of professional ethics.
  17. Perform other duties as required by the Department Chair.

Responsibilities to Nursing Department and Colleagues:

  1. Attend at least 1 nursing department meeting per semester (2 per semester).
  2. In collaboration with the Department Chair, select, prepare, and evaluate the curriculum, course outlines and printed and non-printed instructional materials contributing to program performance improvement.
  3. In collaboration with the Department Chair participate in the systematic evaluation plan process and accreditation process as directed.
  4. Provide data to the Department Chair and appropriate nursing committees for necessary program improvement such as retention efforts and student progress.
  5. Assist in developing and administering appropriate measures of student academic achievement and use departmental assessments as provided.
  6. Use evidence-based research for the maintenance and improvement of the program’s curriculum.
  7. Demonstrate value and respect to colleagues in all interactions.
  8. Facilitate program improvement by participating in feedback and evaluation processes.
  9. Participate in faculty workshops, orientations, and other training as required.

Responsibilities to Students:

  1. Demonstrate how course content can be viewed or interpreted from a Christian perspective.
  2. Keep abreast of current developments in your discipline, continuously reviewing course content, improve the method of instruction, and regularly evaluate the effectiveness of instruction.
  3. Maintain in the classroom and elsewhere an environment where students are stimulated to learn, ask questions, and explore alternative approaches to problems.
  4. Respect students as persons, being concerned with their progress.
  5. Be committed to promoting cultural diversity in curricular offerings and classroom activities that demonstrate an appreciation of all individuals consistent with the Christian character of the College.
  6. Inform students at the beginning of the semester the objectives of each course and organize the method of instruction to meet those objectives.
  7. Provide a syllabus to students early in the course concerning course requirements and required syllabus content per faculty handbook and nursing department policy.
  8. Hold classes and examinations as scheduled and communicate in advance to students any changes for necessary absence and make suitable alternative arrangements.
  9. Provide timely feedback to students regarding all graded assignments.
  10. Ensure all students receive final grades by submitting grades to the Registrar by the assigned deadline at the end of each semester/term.
  11. Be readily available to students for concerns.

Position Requirements

PERSONAL QUALITIES:

Christian Commitment: The successful candidate will be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical church. Preference will be given to the candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s Foundations for Christian Education by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must minimally have a master’s degree in Nursing accredited U.S. college/university.
  • Must have a valid, unencumbered PA registered nurse license and/or multistate nursing license (multistate nursing license will be required when PA implements).
  • Previous higher education teaching experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse student population and wide variety of coworkers.
  • Ability to manage situations of potential interpersonal conflict with tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to deal with abstract and concrete concepts.
  • Ability to verbalize understanding of a problem or situations, ask relevant questions for clarifications, and explain it to others.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively with students and co-workers through various methods such as verbally, e-mail, electronic and by telephone.
  • Ability to self-evaluate for purposes of professional development, teaching skills, and personal growth.

The Nursing Department at Geneva College exists to prepare professional nurses at a bachelor’s level of practice. We view nursing as a ministry of compassionate care for the whole person, in response to God’s grace. We equip students to meet the challenges of professional nursing practice, their calling, and commitment to lifelong learning.
