SUMMARY 

This position is responsible for designing, planning, and conducting evaluation that supports the grant-funded Empathy Collaborative Initiative.   

This is a limited duration, grant funded position currently funded through March 31, 2024.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop evaluation plans in collaboration with the Empathy Collaborative project teams, leadership, and community partners.
  • Provide mentoring and training opportunities to build evaluation capacity both internally and with external partners.
  • Manage databases, perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and report writing.
  • Conduct data collection to evaluate empathy-based programming that is co-designed with community.
  • Evaluate relevant staff trainings focused on culturally responsive practices and effective community engagement.
  • Conduct evaluation that support multi-faceted participatory-research partnership with diverse community partners.
  • Support the empathy projects in cultivating and maintaining positive working relationships with zoo staff, volunteers, and external partners. 
  • Contribute to additional grant-related evaluation projects as needed.  Research content, write articles, blog posts, publications, grant narrative information, communications/interpretive materials, and other materials in support of the empathy projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) from an accredited college or university required plus two (2) or more years of related experience in evaluation, social science, visitor research, informal learning, community development, applied psychology, anthropology or similar fields; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative data analysis and database management.
  • Familiarity with participatory research, asset-based community development, or similar community-centered strategies. 
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive or equitable evaluation practices.
  • Proficient and experienced in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. Ability to work with customized databases and technology and to conduct internet research.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and organizational communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team within diverse teams and environments, while treating everyone with respect. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with audiences of different backgrounds and experiences. 
  • Comfortable with change, innovation, and creative approaches to collaboration and evaluation.
  • Ability to listen patiently and attentively, ability to express self clearly and effectively, and ability to adapt communication based on audience and purpose with inclusivity. 
  • Ability to employee best practices associate with position, with an approach to accuracy, while displaying an ongoing commitment to learning and self-improvement. 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work a non-standard/flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. 

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in community-centered participatory evaluation, or community development.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Amharic or another spoken language.   

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position may be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and/or outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

Pay: $68,000 annually plus benefits

Employment Requirements: 

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid WA driver's license with a safe driving history. A criminal background check and driving record review will be required of the selected applicant.

COVID-19 Vaccination  

  • As of November 24, 2021, employees working on or accessing zoo grounds are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If hired, you will be required to submit proof of vaccination by your first day of employment. 
  • People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.
