Share Email Opening Title Getty Marrow - Assistant Registrar, Permanent Collections  Description The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery. Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Permanent Collections, the Assistant Registrar will be primarily responsible for the proper documentation and physical care of the Museums permanent collection material. The ideal candidate must be highly organized, efficient, able to multi-task and possess excellent attention to detail. This is a full-time, temporary role for two years. You Will: Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of the permanent collection, following AAM guidelines, for incoming acquisitions, accessioning, deaccessioning, and condition reporting of collection material. Assist with processing of new acquisitions and maintain the permanent collection by assigning accession numbers, physical numbering, documentary photography, and condition reporting. Assist with determining appropriate housing for collection material. Monitor multiple permanent collections, museum storage locations, and manage rehousing, relocation, and storage retrofitting projects. Supervise art handling and exhibition preparation of collection objects including installation, de-installation, transport, unpacking, and packing of crates and other movement requiring proper handling. Act as a courier of collection objects when necessary. Maintain record-keeping systems and procedures that promote identification and management of museum collections. Maintain a collection of physical files and assist with updates in the collections management database in conjunction with the Collection Information Registrar. Coordinate scholarly and professional visits to the collection. Perform inventories of museum collections. Collaborate with several Academy departments to facilitate other collection-related activities, including exhibition preparation, educational programs, and museum development. Liaise with a range of stakeholders, including other Academy staff, members of site-partner organizations, staff at other institutions, donors, vendors, and members of the public. Manage and order stock of preservation supplies for the Museum. Assist with loan registration and logistics including condition reporting, packing, shipping, and insurance for museum and library loans. Attend lectures and workshops to keep current with museum best practices.   Position Requirements You Have: Must be an alumna/us/I of the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program. A bachelor’s degree in museum studies or a related subject. 1+ years of museum registration experience. Equivalent experience will be considered. A valid passport and driver’s license and be willing to travel domestically and internationally, as necessary. Familiarity with standard museum registration and collections management policies and procedures is essential. Strong computer skills including experience and proficiency with museum/library databases, word processing, and spreadsheets. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of and experience with best handling practices and preventative care for museum objects. Familiarity with storing, moving, and packing artworks to museum standards.
