Job Summary

The Youth Suicide Prevention Outreach Specialist will work with the Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center’s Mental Health Team in the development and implementation of a coordinated suicide prevention program for the CTUIR community. The Outreach Specialist will help with coordination and leadership of youth activities, trainings, and outreach and awareness events in the community. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Work with Yellowhawk Behavioral Health Team to develop and implement comprehensive prevention activities for suicide prevention in the CTUIR community.
  2. Assist with logistical arrangements for Suicide Prevention meetings, trainings and events (for example: purchasing, promotion, registration, travel).
  3. Provide leadership in developing suicide prevention efforts in the community.
  4. Assist Behavioral Health Team in collecting and maintaining data for purposes of evaluation and efficacy.
  5. Assist the Behavioral Health Team in providing trainings, including QPR, ASIST, Means Restriction, First Nations Youth Suicide Curriculum, and other educational programs that may be identified as the project develops.
  6. Help to establish and maintain positive networks with tribal, county, state, and other partner agencies.
  7. Provide referrals when appropriate.
  8. Co-facilitate with Family Strength Team culturally appropriate drug-free activities such as crafts, events, Powwow’s or other traditional healthy activities.
  9. Other related job duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of college experience in the social service field.

OR

High School Diploma or equivalent and lived experience with utilizing local mental health services.

2. Have a Letter of Verification proving a minimum of two (2) years sobriety for those who are recovering from chemical dependency.

3. Must show a basic understanding of issues related to mental health, suicide, and addiction.

4. Represents Yellowhawk with a respected and viable presence in the community.

5. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office programs and/or other relevant software to meet the needs of the program.

6. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles.

7. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.

8. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

9. Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience and/or knowledge of history, culture and health needs of Native American communities preferred.
