SUMMARY

Oversee the safety of the company as it relates to Worker’s Compensation, OSHA, DOT & Environmental compliance. Plans, directs and implements organization safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. This position is responsible for driving a safety culture at all LaForce locations and departments, including office, manufacturing and field installation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Ensure these policies and procedures are up to date and maintained appropriately.

Develops, plans and implements training of managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials throughout the company. Ensures employee training is up to date and recorded on an ongoing basis.

Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

Directs the administration of the Company’s environmental compliance. Ensure compliance in all locations.

Provide direction to employees and management to proactively address safety, health and environmental risks and concerns.

Responsible for DOT compliance for organization of delivery drivers including updating and maintenance of all driver files.

Leads the investigation of incidents (including near misses) to determine root causes. Develops corrective and preventive programs and procedures.

Develop and manage the safety budget

Conducts safety audits & assessments/inspections to ensure compliance with requirements. Holds employees accountable for infractions.

Maintains safety files and records.

Responds and provides assistance in emergency situations.

Attends conferences, seminars and workshops to keep up to date on new safety methods, laws and procedures. Maintains required level of certification.

Provide necessary safety information for bid pre-qualifications.

Assist Human Resources staff with workers' compensation program processes, including working with the insurance carrier, the injured employee and manager to reduce employee lost time.

Assist Human Resources staff with information required to update and maintain OSHA 300 logs; including information related to completing required Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illness and annual postings.

Maintains confidentiality with all employee matters as appropriate.

 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • ASP or CSP certification is preferred, other safety certification accepted.
  • OSHA 30 certification is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to influence and mentor individuals and teams

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in industrial safety ore related field; A minimum or two to four years’ experience developing and implementing safety initiatives; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
