Description

DXP | HSE Integrated is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor for an Automotive Project. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, be organized and have great communication skills. The Safety Advisor is to ensure the safe operation of the project, jobsite and day-to-day activities of the client and its contractors. The Safety Advisor is to know, advise, and enforce the Client's and Contractor's OH&S programs, OH&S policies, company rules, and the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act as applicable to the Client's operation.

Location: Pointe Claire, Montreal

Start Date: ASAP - Duration of project is approximently 10 weeks

Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide support to the project team on the ground on OH&S matters.
  • Address and communicate immediately any unsafe practices observed on site.
  • Liaison with the Client and their contractors regarding health and safety issues on site.
  • Conduct OH&S inspections during project work to assess the worksite for unsafe acts and conditions and recommend corrective actions.
  • Advise OH&S issues and potential non-compliance concerns with respect to Provincial OH&S Act/Regulations.
  • Monitor the safety performance of site personnel. Advise the Client and contractor on issues or concerns and recommend ways to resolve issues.
  • Assist Client and contractor with incident investigations, including near misses.
  • Attend site toolbox meetings, field level hazard assessments, etc to determine effectiveness and confirm documentation of same.
  • Review site documentation to ensure compliance with the OH&S Program.
  • Maintain OH&S inspection records for the project.
  • Other related duties as determined in consultation with Client.
 
Position Requirements

The position requires a working knowledge of the utility/high voltage field. This ensures an adequate understanding of the unique hazards and challenges faced by our client, as well as the hazards and processes associated with asbestos abatement activities. The successful candidate will be familiar with the utility work protection code, electrical safety legislation, ESA guidelines, CSA Z462 (arc flash protection), the Electrical and Utility Safety Association Rulebook, and Newfoundland and Labrador Asbestos Abatement Regulations.

The successful candidate would also have:

  • 3-5 years’ experience working in the high voltage electrical generation/distribution field
  • Advanced First Aid/CPR-C/AED trained (Standard First Aid/CPR C/AED is a minimum for consideration)
  • Experienced and trained in hazard recognition and assessment, accident/incident investigation and auditing
