What You Will Be Doing

As a Peer Mentor, you will connect with and mentor individuals with autism or co-occurring SED/SMI w/IDD (severe emotional disturbance, serious mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities) to assist them in reaching their boundless potential. In this role, you will assist individuals with their specific needs to find meaningful connections in their communities, discover new interests and skills, and develop functional competencies to be used in daily living.

Essential Functions

  • Services will primarily be provided in the community, but may also be provided in the individual’s home, facility, or an office. Services may be provided in-person or via telehealth based on individual treatment needs.
  • Expresses understanding, support, and respect for the many paths that an individual may wish to pursue.
  • Commit to confidentiality of communication between peer and associated staff within the program. The confidential nature of this relationship does not extend to areas covered by mandated reporting.
  • Motivates and serves as a role model, mentor, and/or advocate for individuals served. 
  • Serve as group facilitator for various peer led support groups.
  • Assist individuals in identifying their personal interests, goals, strengths, and areas of need.
  • Performs a wide range of tasks to assist and support individuals of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds in regaining independence within the community and building and sustaining their connections to the community.
  • Provide ongoing peer mentorship to teach individuals about healthy social interaction, overcoming fears, problem solving, and increasing overall personal wellness.
  • Assists individuals in developing Activities of Daily Living skills (ADL), such as cooking, housekeeping, personal hygiene, budgeting and/or shopping.
  • Actively participate in conflict resolution and problem solving with individuals as needed. 
  • Accompanying individuals to volunteer, employment sites, etc.
  • Advocate on a case, policy, and program level.
  • Meet monthly requirements for billable hours as established by the department, including completion of mandatory documentation within timelines established by applicable regulations and policies.
  • Responsible for reading and following the employee handbook and all Boundless policies and procedures and completing all assigned trainings.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively engaging in education in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field at the collegiate level.
  • Licensed through the State of Ohio as a SWT, RBT, CBT, CT, or BCaBA.


  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR - adult, child, and infant, delegated nursing. (Training will be provided, if not already certified).
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License – Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
  • Insurable Driving Record - no more than five points on your driving record.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit, drive, type, speak on the phone; participate in virtual meetings and appointments.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and in the community providing services to individuals in their school, home, or other community settings. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position, and hours of work and days have flexibility based upon the department needs, but are primarily Monday through Friday, and should fall between 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Occasional weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Part time employees working 20 hours per week, or more are eligible for benefits. 


Travel is local to assigned area during the business/workday. Position may require transporting clients as appropriate to support their treatment needs.
