Position Objective: To support the Museum's mission by working to develop our physical and outdoor environments in ways that embrace science learning and nurture a learning culture; helping to facilitate the installation of landscaping by providing preventative maintenance, cleaning, timely repairs, and refurbishment of the outdoor environments, to ensure a reliable and satisfying interaction by our members and other guests. Work focuses on keeping all exhibits in functioning order on a daily basis.


  • Assist Outdoor Landscaping staff in:
  • Plant and tree installations, removal, and care.
  • Installing and maintaining hardscapes, storm water control devices, and all outdoor public spaces.
  • Assisting in the installation of new outdoor exhibit experiences.
  • Interact with visitors as required about exhibits and grounds during open hours.
  • Become knowledgeable about topics that relate to enhancing the Museum's horticultural practices throughout the Museum property.
  • Act to collaborate and cooperate on joint projects with other museum staff (Facilities Dept., Animal Dept., etc.).
  • Additional duties as needed
Position Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required with a 4 year degree or years of related experience.
  • Valid drivers license
  • Previous Experience in maintenance-related functions; mechanical, carpentry, electrical, lighting, HVAC, plumbing, painting, and welding.
  • Physically able to perform duties, to include lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs., walking varying terrains up to a mile, climbing ladders, pulling, and pushing equipment as required and working outside in changing weather conditions.
  • Confident with computer operation for email and internet search. Competent with Microsoft office suite and able to learn new apps.


  • Skill-specific certifications or licenses
  • Trade school, 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience desired.
