Summer Youth Coordinator 2022 (Temporary)
OVERVIEW: Coordinate the summer youth program for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. Ensure all summer youth have experiences that foster understanding of employer expectations. Provide an enriching, fulfilling, and rewarding environment for youth and open forum to achieve excellence in communication, work processes and to promote unity within the Tribe.
WORK SITE: Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Center and assigned areas
SUPERVISOR: Human Resource Director/HR Professional
POSITION STATUS: Temporary no benefits
SALARY LEVEL: $18.00/hourly
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday-Friday, approximately 11 weeks (June - August)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee the summer youth program, coordinate transportation (sometimes transporting youth), during the culture/recreation activities for the duration of the summer programs.
- Ensure that the youth are responsible, safe and respectful towards others.
- Set up and coordinate summer youth orientation.
- Provide guidance, assistance to LEKT staff who supervise Summer Youth Workers with procedures and any potential discipline.
- Responsible for being a role model for the Youth workers by setting positive examples of good work ethics.
- Will assist with coordination of summer field trips with Recreation Department or other related activities.
- Responsible for monitoring/tracking of daily activities completed; and maintain a daily activity log on youth
- Responsible for all summer youth time sheets, making sure they are complete, signed by employee and supervisor.
- Responsible for creating evaluations when Youth workers have completed their hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- First Aid/CPR Certificate and/or willing to obtain a First Aid/CPR card prior to Summer Program beginning.
- Must have a valid Washington State Driver license, a good driving record and be insurable.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED certificate
- Must be able to pass a Washington Criminal History Background Check.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with the Summer Youth and other Tribal employees.
- Ability to work independently is a self-starter and motivator.
- Ability to give clear and understanding instructions.
- Ability to lead by example in the development of good work habits and responsibility
- Must have ability to be able and willing to follow directions and instructions of immediate supervisor
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Must be on time for work each workday, dependable and flexible to work extra hours as needed.
- All employees/applicants are subject to the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe drug and alcohol free work place policy, which include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing prior to employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift 20+ pounds; bend, stoop, sit, stand, stretch to reach.
- This job requires supervising and working with Youth ages 14-18 years of age so there may be periods where you will be standing/walking for most of the 8 hour day.
