POSITION SUMMARY
This position will perform two important functions; one function is the registration of patients and the second function is operating a medical mobile unit (i.e. specialty vehicle). The incumbent is responsible for interviewing patients and providing assistance to complete required forms to process medical and pharmacy billing claims, collecting and analyzing all patients’ demographic information, third party coverage (i.e. insurance), and data entering clinical elements. Is responsible for data integrity to further expedite third party reimbursement and optimize customer satisfaction. The medical mobile units are equipped and designed to provide medical and dental services. The incumbent must be able to drive in all types of road and weather conditions. This position requires the ability to work under conditions of frequent interruptions, working a flexible work schedule, and providing support to the patient registration department as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Schedules patients for check-in and check-out using the scheduling software, reviews, updates, and maintains all patient data in multiple patient accounting and registration systems by initiating the completion of forms required for billing and admitting processes.
- Works with the designated software systems in order register and assist the providers and financial processes.
- Serves patients and visitors by welcoming and greeting them in person and/or on the telephone, answers inquiries and delivers messages to appropriate personnel.
- Interviews patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information, assures document scanning, retrieving, and editing and patient identification to determine patient's insurance coverage, limitations and communicates to patient any co-pays or deductibles.
- Identifies patient's potential financial liability for a specific service and identifies patients at risk for inability to meet financial liability. Makes referral to an appropriate agency/person. Provides an overview of options available to patients/families by assessing patient understanding of Patient Registration process to determine appropriate response to patient’s questions and applications and communicates appropriate information needed to complete patient’s eligibility process.
- Performs income screening for Patient Benefits Coordination, collect available data and provides a referral when necessary.
- Assists patients in completing and updating forms required for medical records, third party insurer, and the facility.
- Provides information on patient rights and resource benefits and tactfully advises patient of non-payment or denial of claims. If denials or other rejection of alternate resources occur, incumbent will intervene on patient’s behalf by contacting and verifying coverage through third party resource.
- Serves patients and visitors by welcoming and greeting them in person and/or on the telephone, answers inquiries and delivers messages to appropriate personnel.
- Assembles patient charts after the interview is completed, intake and coordinate data from all visits encountered during the shift.
- Handles the controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving a mobile medical unit; aware of the height, width, length, and weight of the unit and judges overhead and side clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and the safest distance to be maintained from a preceding vehicle.
- Recognizes hazardous conditions and change routes to avoid them; assists in loading and unloading supplies, cargo, etc., and considers how to store and stock supplies to prevent shifting.
- Reports accidents or other safety situations to appropriate personnel. Inspects exterior and interior of vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, air-conditioning or heating, warning lamps, mirror adjustment, properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc., prior to moving vehicle. Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of vehicle are properly cleaned and vehicle is adequately fueled on an ongoing basis
- Upon relocation at a new site, makes all electrical and plumbing connections and ensures equipment is operable as required by law & policy.
- Proper PPE worn inside assigned Clinics or Units. NIOSH- approved N95 Masks filtering face piece respirator or higher, if available, Eye or Face shields, Gloves, and Isolation Gowns.
- Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. Training well be provided.
- Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

Physical:
Work is mostly sedentary sitting at a desk, with prolonged walking, standing and bending while interviewing patients and preparing the appropriate paperwork for treatment of a patient or initiating a chart, driving, crouching, kneeling, twisting, maintaining balance, and reaching for items as needed.
Light physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operator motor vehicle. Moderate physical effort is required in performance of changing tires, handling bulk supplies, and equipment weighing over 50 pounds. Assists ambulatory patients (weighing over 150 pounds or more) needing assistance. Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 24lbs for a prolonged period of time, frequently up to 75lbs and occasionally over 100lbs as needed. Must have ability of far, near and color vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech, hearing overhead pages and telephone use. Must have both hand manipulation of simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and use of keyboards.
Working Conditions:
The driver may be required to work outside and at times in inclement weather conditions. Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious vehicle accidents. The driver may sustain minor cuts, bruises, and in the rare occasion broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicle, proper body mechanics must be utilized when moving objects. May frequently be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, extremes in temperature or humidity, hazardous or moving equipment, unprotected heights, loud noises, and occasional exposure to infectious diseases and chemical agents.
Mental:
Incumbent must be able to effectively communicate to the patient what specific information is needed, the reason for requesting such information and be able to ascertain that it is accurate as possible. Consequences of obtaining inaccurate information may delay necessary medical treatment, delay billing process and cause unnecessary frustration and problems. Must have ability to continuously work alone, frequently cope with high levels of stress, make decisions under high pressure, cope with anger/fear/hostility of other in a calm way, manage altercations, concentrate, handle high degree of flexibility, demonstrate high degree of patience, adapt to shift work, and work in areas that are close and crowded. Must accept a flexible schedule to meet unit needs.
