Purpose of Division:

Corporate Strategy & Impact (CSI) is responsible for strategic planning, corporate performance measurement, program evaluation, data collection and policy, and business intelligence, all of which furthers the coordination and integration of programmatic systems across the functional divisions of the organization. Under the guidance of the CEO and in collaboration with the SVPs of the corporation's divisions, Corporate Strategy & Impact leads projects and processes which are important to the accomplishment of overall corporate strategic goals, with an emphasis on systems or operations which support improved corporate-wide programmatic performance and communications. The division consists of three distinct but inter-connected business units:

Planning and Evaluation – is a small, high-profile team dedicated to improving the organization’s understanding of what drives performance and how to achieve greater impact. The team leads strategic planning and annual goal setting processes and works closely with internal stakeholders to identify and track success metrics and monitor performance against strategic plan goals. The team evaluates the effectiveness of programs and activities to understand what is working, what is not working, and how to make improvements. Senior leadership and program managers across the organization are its key customers.

Business Intelligence Services – this entrepreneurial team within CSI drives innovation at the intersection of technology, data, and community development. BIS offers capacity-building products and services to help internal divisions and member organizations anticipate change and grow their own capabilities and resources. Within the laboratory that is NeighborWorks America, this unique group functions to translate stakeholder needs into data-driven products and services. These products help local organizations understand their communities and tell their stories of impact to the world. For this reason, NeighborWorks network organizations are a frequent and significant client of the Business Intelligence team.

Data Management and Policy – is a technology-, data-, and customer-driven team within CSI that focuses on data integrity and accessibility, process automation, and customer support. Data Management leads the corporation’s efforts in defining and collecting performance data from 240+ affiliate members across the country, information which is used to tell the story of impact. Data Management oversees the data collection process and infrastructure, provides training and technical assistance, and oversees quality control and validation to ensure the performance data is reliable and accurate. The NeighborWorks network organizations along with internal business stakeholders of each Line of Business are primary customers of the Data Management team.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Business Intelligence Services, the Senior Manager is responsible for engaging in data driven analyses to evaluate NeighborWorks' programs and activities, and participates in program evaluation, analysis, design and execution. This work requires the ability to aggregate, review, analyze and present corporate performance measurement and market data needed by corporate management and the NeighborWorks network to set goals, monitor results and report to key stakeholders on performance against strategic and operational goals. The Senior Manager is also responsible for geocoding NeighborWorks America’s data and manages the technology that drives the attribution of geography to NeighborWorks America’s data sets.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage, develop, and execute analytical projects (including dashboards, maps, and other products) for internal and external customers as required and present results to senior staff and Officers.
  • Independently provide corporate data and analysis as needed to internal stakeholders, including senior management and officers. Contribute to the development of high-profile products, such as performance reports for the Board and the Office of Management and Budget.
  • Independently coordinate and proactively manage relationships with all internal divisions to provide corporate data and analysis needed.
  • Independently develop and execute analytical projects for internal and external customers as required and present results.
  • Conduct GIS/mapping for ad hoc and regular requests.
  • Lead and manage the divisional use of business intelligence tools and platforms, including Tableau and Alteryx, and serve as the Corporate champion for Alteryx and/or any other advanced data analytics platforms.
  • Co-lead the marketing efforts to advertise the work of the Business Intelligence Services team with both internal and external customers.
  • Independently collaborate with the Data Policy and Management team on a quarterly and annual basis to geocode, visualize and analyze data sets, including adding key geographic attributes to the data (e.g. Congressional Districts, rural codes, etc.)
  • Provide training, customer service and technical support to external customers (NeighborWorks network organizations) and internal customers (business units, task groups, initiatives etc.) on data reporting and policy requirements, usage of the Online Reporting System, data accessibility, and quality assurance processes.
  • Design, administer, and provide customer support for assigned data collection surveys and coordinate quality assurance (QA) with internal stakeholders, including the development of QA tools and reports.

Nature of Work Contacts:
The Senior Manager works independently and cross-functionally to create and cultivate highly effective working relationships across the corporation. The job requires extensive internal collaboration within CSI, close engagement with senior managers and program staff of multiple divisions within NeighborWorks America, and the creation and maintenance of strong relationships with NeighborWorks organizations to market the BI team’s work. Additional external collaboration with the NeighborWorks network involves working with reporting and program staff (including Senior Management and Executive Directors) to provide support and guidance with reporting performance data and accessing that data through interactive dashboards.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: A bachelor's degree is required.
(b) Experience: At least seven (7) years' professional experience conducting program research and analysis, preferably in the non-profit or public sector.
(c) License, Certifications: None.
(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Extensive knowledge and experience with the principles, practices, and methods of research design, data collection, analysis and data reporting/presentation. Proficiency with databases and how to use and create them. Advanced aptitude for learning new software to support research and analysis work. Experience with and an understanding of the principles of GIS/mapping. Advanced technical aptitude in Tableau, Alteryx and/or other geocoding and advanced data analytics software

(f) Technology: Demonstrated advanced proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Software (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as advanced statistical software (e.g. SPSS).

Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree is preferred.

(a) Travel: Up to 10%
(b) Physical/Sensory Demands: Fast paced working environment with extensive computer usage. Requires occasional absences from employee’s place of residence.
