CORPORATE CLAIMS MANAGER

Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build, organize, and manage a worker’s compensation, auto, and GL claims program for a large manufacturing company.
  • Lead and/or participate in internal discussions regarding claims/workers’ compensation matters; represent the company externally to public and private agencies and appeal boards
  • Identify, evaluate, and assess probability and severity of losses; develop, implement, and monitor cost containment strategies to prevent and minimize losses
  • Oversee and ensure an efficient records maintenance system for claims and related information, data, and activities
  • Supervise the management of employee injury cases; investigate or oversee the investigation of claims; develop strategies to handle specific cases in consultation with the appropriate parties
  • Participate in budget preparations and monitor expenditures; determine the extent of the company’s liability; recommend and negotiate claim settlements
  • Recommend/establish reserves for anticipated claims costs; work closely with Chief Safety Officer and CPO to ensure reserves are appropriately and timely communicated
  • Collaborate with physicians, attorneys, employees, and management; develop and coordinate return-to-work plans; coordinate and monitor rehabilitation plans for injured employees; evaluate results of pre-employment and return-to-work medical examinations and make appropriate determinations
  • Attend claims-related hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials; manage third-party subrogation cases to seek reimbursement from third parties
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints; evaluate problems and take appropriate action to resolve issues/concerns; notify injured employees of their benefits
  • Stay up to date and train others on claims trends and innovations and keep current on all relevant legislative and regulatory issues at the State and Federal level
  • Complete reports and maintain records; authorize payment on medical bills, permanent and temporary disability compensation
  • Partner with Operations and Safety to identify any negative safety trends leading to injuries
  • Align course of action to maximize organizational goals through effective planning and efficient performance of the department
  • Ability to appropriately choose and implement the claims management system
 
Position Requirements

Position/Education Requirements:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, risk management, workers’ compensation, or closely related field
  • 8-10 years of progressively responsible professional and administrative experience in a self-insured or self- administered workers’ compensation program, including supervisory experience preferably
  • Prior oversight experience for the handling of all claims covered, or potentially covered, by various insurance programs such as worker’s compensation, general liability, automobile, umbrella, premises liability and pollution policies
  • CPCU or ARM professional designation is preferred

 

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Regular use of hands to manipulate office equipment, phones, and computer keyboard/ mouse
  • Sitting for extended periods of time, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 pounds
  • Extensive visual computer use and document review
  • Requires the ability to hear normal audible sounds including conversations over the phone and in person
  • Organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills, ability to multi-task, comprehend complex information and analyze data, ability to effectively communicate with others orally and in writing
