Job Title: Custodial Services Coordinator

Department: Crisis Shelter

Location: 1515 E Illinois Spokane

Reports To: CS Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary of Position:

Perform custodial, janitorial, and floor care duties, maintain custodial supplies inventory, perform light maintenance duties and grounds maintenance

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position carries management responsibilities that include the housekeeping ERP, housekeeping crews, and laundry workers. There is shared supervision in these areas.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Key Result Area #1: Custodial / Janitorial

  • Keeping good communication and meeting regularly with Director
  • Communicate cleaning schedule i.e. carpets, floors etc.to the team
  • Lead work groups and service projects on grounds
  • Have a working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment, be able to use them economically, efficiently, and safely
  • Stock supplies in regional custodial closets; ensure spray bottles are properly labeled; maintain SDS notebooks
  • Order and maintain cleaning supplies, paper products, trash can liners, and soap; order and maintain cleaners for kitchen and laundry
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms / bathrooms using established practices and procedures; refill soap and paper product dispensers; clean mirrors
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, clean blinds
  • Have cleaning rags and dust mops laundered
  • Empty waste baskets; collect and dispose of refuse
  • Floor care to include: vacuuming and shampooing carpets, buffing and scrubbing hard surface floors, sweeping, and mopping; application of floor finishing products in appropriate locations as needed
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high and low-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, windows, etc.

 

Key Result Area #2: Grounds / Maintenance

  • Perform grounds keeping activities such as clearing snow, mowing lawns, raking leaves, trimming shrubs, and general grounds maintenance such as clearing litter and debris from yards and parking lots
  • Perform light plumbing and electrical repairs as needed
  • Ability to do repairs to walls, floors, equipment, fixtures, and hardware

 

Key Result Area #3: Manage Program Residents

  • Supervise housekeeping crews; train leads in the proper use of chemicals, cleaning methods, and cleaning equipment
  • Hold residents accountable through working with House Manager, manage EPR program residents in work therapy programs, do Padman evaluations on residents assigned to facility, supervise resident tasks on grounds and in building maintenance
  • Ensure individual rooms are cleaned and arranged for new guests
  • Empower guests by encouraging them to fulfill responsibilities; holding guests accountable.
  • Model healthy relationships and Christ-like conflict management.

 

Key Result Area #4: Teamwork / Communication

  • Healthy, affirming communication occurs with other staff and residents frequently.
  • Conflicts will be resolved using the Peace Maker tools.
  • Email correspondence will occur within 24 hours.
  • Participates in holding others and self-accountable and participates in self-evaluation process.
  • Comes to meetings prepared and with a positive, supportive attitude.
  • Other assigned duties are completed satisfactorily.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Committed Christian, able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry for the poor, homeless, drug addicted and mentally ill. Grounded in the Christian faith as a mature, active member of the body of Christ. In accordance with Union Gospel Mission Statement of Purpose, Statement of Vision and Statement of Faith.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills - exercise compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ.
  • Able and willing, as a unified team member, to honor the leadership, chain of command, and standards and ministry objectives of Union Gospel Mission.
  • Willing to follow UGM policy regarding addressing and resolving conflict amongst team members, volunteers, & residents.
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions
  • Have an understanding of industry standards or above for repair or construction projects
  • Be a self-starter who is able to complete work with minimal oversight
  • Able to work individually or as part of a team
  • Ability to interact positively with staff and guests
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook); able to complete documents, reports and accurately record information. Willing to continue education as needed or required.
  • Must have a teachable spirit and the ability manage multiple emotional and task related variables, listen, and make sound decisions in alignment with UGM’s purpose.
  • Minimum 2 years of sobriety, if in recovery.
  • Insightful, trustworthy, honest, reliable, model appropriate boundaries, and strong work ethic.
  • Valid Washington or Idaho driver’s license to drive vehicles assigned to the department – required.
  • Yearly TB clearance – required.
  • Criminal background check clearance – required.

 

Working Conditions / Physical Factors: Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100%

  • Requires working with a diverse population, many of whom struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness – continuously.
  • Ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs; perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks - continuously
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis Frequently
  • Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions, climb ladders and stairs, pick up and carry 65 pounds Continuously
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders Frequently
  • Able to pick up and carry 75 lbs. as needed Frequently
  • Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all of the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis – frequently.

 

Education / Experience:

  • Aptitude for working with mechanical, custodial, and building systems preferred
  • One-year custodial experience preferred

 

Requirement:
