The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, digital experiences, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, and serving a global audience online, the museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.


Reporting to the Associate Curator for Digital Presentation, you will assist with research and digital content development for the Museum app and website, as well as for the Museum’s in-gallery AR and digital editorial programs. You will also offer additional research and writing support, perform administrative duties, and generally support the digital team. You must have a strong understanding of cinema history and excellent research skills.

You Will:

  • Work with the digital curator to support all aspects of digital content creation.
  • Conduct general research (using materials held within and outside the museum) in support of digital initiatives and projects.
  • Research still and moving images for use in projects; work to obtain relevant permissions and licenses; identify relevant time code within moving images.
  • Write public-facing material - articles, blurbs, etc.
  • Provide general admin support. Organize/update/maintain digital content project documentation such as Airtables.
  • Collaborate and consult with multiple museum departments - legal, conservation, the Margaret Herrick Library, and others to complete projects.
  • Participate in app and website testing, as well as QA.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in film studies, museum studies, or related subject is required.
  • Exceptional writing and research skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a museum or other arts environment is a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment while maintaining a high level of organization.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of film research materials, archives, and methods.
  • Strong familiarity with digital production and project support tools such as Trello, Airtable, Google Docs, etc.
  • Ability to build relationships, and work in partnership with others.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself.
