Educator and Summer Day Camp Manager 

Description

This position is responsible for running all aspects of Summer Day Camp, and delivering educational programs for all of Mystic Seaport Museum’s education programs, including field trips, afterschool programs and overnight programs. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Run the Museum’s Summer Day Camp June-August including but not limited to:
    • developing programs, activities, and themes for 10 weeks of camp;
    • writing schedules, shopping for and managing craft and other supplies;
    • communicating with department Supervisors to arrange program related educational activities in exhibits;
    • managing staff and volunteers during the summer while also delivering summer day camp programming;
    • completing all the state licensing paperwork and adhering to licensing guidelines, and communicating with the camp doctor and state license inspector during inspection;
    • completing office duties, including but not limited to: communicating with parents, processing registration paperwork, processing campers’ health forms and permission slips, and pre-visit packets, filling out evaluations, filing, email and telephone work.
  • Deliver education programs September-mid-June for afterschool programs, field trips at the Museum, and overnight programs.
  • Provide excellent customer service and excellent visitor experiences
  • Build a professional repertoire through continuous growth and mastery of content, demonstration skills, hands-on education, presentation and delivery techniques and educational theory
  • Help advance department and institutional goals, adhere to mission, and serve as ambassador for Mystic Seaport Museum
 
Position Requirements
  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and booster by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required.
  • Experience working with children and youth; ability to engage students in a dynamic and energetic manner
  • Experience working in summer day camps
  • Experience communicating with parents
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse staff across the Museum as well as external customers
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Willingness to work a highly flexible schedule corresponding to the needs of the Museum

The Museum is home to more than 500 historic watercraft, including four National Historic Landmark vessels, most notably the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan, America's oldest commercial ship still in existence.
