JOB DESCRIPTION:         

The Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for AFPSL andTechnical Order functions.  The major processes and disciplines include:

RADIAC:

The major processes that involve Radiac principles, theories, and applications, i.e., calibrations of radiac survey meters, ionization chambers and dosimeters, radiac
dosimeters, Geiger counters, standard Cesium-137 sources, primary and secondary PU-239 standard sources, radiac calibration sets, Gamma monitors, standard X-ray
systems, large area Alpha sources, Neutron survey meters, Alpha standards, and Alpha-Gamma counters.

Fiber Optics:

The major processes that involve fiber optics principles, theories, and applications, i.e., calibrations of Helium-Neon lasers, optical signal generators, fiber optics sources, LED
sources, fiber optics power meters, fiber optics detectors/sensors, fiber optics laser source modules, fiber optics optical attenuators, fiber optics test stations, large beam
medium power laser heads, fiber optics sensor heads, radiometer photometers, double monochrome photometers, fiber optics optical pulse power meters, fiber optics loss test
sets, fiber optics optical wavelength meters, and laser diode sources.

Infrared:

The major processes that involve infrared principles, theories, and applications, i.e., calibrations of blackbodies, blackbody controllers, bandpass filters, null detectors, filter
wheels, photometer spectrometers, standard lamps, infrared target simulators, Germanium detectors, monochrometers, monochrometers/spectrometers, infrared
thermometers, Neutron density filters, standard ultra violet lamps, Mercury/Cadmium Telluride detectors, irradiance probes, standard Deuterium lamps, optical spectrum
analyzers, pyro radiometers and detectors, ND filter sets, thermopiles, and spectral irradiance heads.

Photometries:

The major processes that involve photometric principles, theories, and applications, i.e., calibrations of luminance meters, spectra photometers, spectral radiance standard
lamps, ultraviolet enhanced silicon heads, laser radiometers, brightness sources, ultraviolet meters, radiometers/photometers, ultraviolet intensity meters, illuminance
probes, Opal glass plates, optical spectrum analyzers, spectral irradiance heads and lamp monitors.

Laser:

The major processes that involve laser principles, theories, and applications, i.e., calibrations of Ruby lasers, thermopiles, laser receivers, Helium-Neon gas lasers, laser
power meters, broad band laser power meters, power supplies, disc calorimeters with power indicators, laser calorimeters and meters, high energy laser power meters, laser radiometers, radiometer detectors and systems, Neodymium lasers, calorimeters, gas chromatography, laser energy monitors, beam splitters, pyroelectric energy meters, and
primary reference calorimeter standards.

 
Position Requirements

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics and/or Mathematics.

  2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in metrology or related discipline.

  3. Working knowledge of metrology theory, principles and practices in assigned
    measurement areas.

  4. Understanding of theory and application of measurement uncertainty analysis.

  5. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, with particular emphasis in Word and Excel.

  6. Must possess great oral and written English communication skills.

  7. Must be a US Citizen;

  8. Must be eligible for or have successfully completed a National Agency Check investigation within the last ten (10) years.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Essential/Typical Duties:

  • Engineers are required to provide a technology knowledge base to accommodate new technologies entering the Air Force (AF).
  • This includes such items as initial implementation of new AF reference standards into the AFPSL, review of AFPSL historical data to determine drift or erosion of standard capabilities, substitution of equipment and/or techniques development of uncertainty analysis for AFPSL techniques and technical orders whose TUR is less than 4:1, interface with NIST concerning interpretation of calibration certificates or test data, and interface with AFMETCAL engineering.

            Non-Essential Functions:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required Occasionally – Climbing, Stooping, Kneeling

Required Often – Reaching, Standing, Sitting, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Talking, Hearing, Seeing

Lifting/Moving Requirements:

The ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds is required.

Environmental Conditions:

Normally works in an environmentally controlled work area.
