Overall Responsibilities: Under direction of the Chief Medical Officer provides medical services to patients of HealthWorks for Northern Virginia (HW). In addition, unless specifically exempted by the Medical Director, Physician shall be qualified to serve on the active Medical Staff of a local hospital, provide inpatient care services, assume "on call" after hours responsibilities, and oversee HW midlevel medical providers and nursing staff as appropriate. All staff are expected to function as part of a collaborative health services team.
Description of Duties:
As a member of the health care team, working under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the duties of the Internal Medicine Physician include:
- Promotes the mission, vision and values of HealthWorks for Northern Virginia.
- As Health Works for Northern Virginia comprehensive health care team, assists in both the planning and implementation of HW’s health care plan.
- Assume quality of care for all adult patients. Provides appropriate, efficient and effective clinical medical care required in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human disease, injury, chronic, and autoimmune illnesses.
- Works with facility staff and medical staff through the processes of quality improvement, peer evaluation, professional and staff meetings, and state rules and regulations to ensure clinical standards are maintained at the facility.
- Provides adequate and timely patient medical records to facilitate appropriate continuity of care, confidentiality of client information, and compliance with medical reporting standards; and to facilitate accurate and timely billing of services.
- Adheres to the highest standards of medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times.
- Accepts clinical responsibilities/duties assigned or requested by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Adheres to quality assessment guideline, CLIA, OSHA or other regulations as federally mandated or as set forth by standards of practice of HW.
- Assists in the responsibility of on call and hospital duty for the practice. Participates in hospital activities and professional program development.
- Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment (outside of the regular operating budget) to the Chief Medical Officer.
- Develops and observes policies, procedures and protocols to achieve HealthWorks for Northern Virginia's goals and objectives.
- Recommends changes in staffing, services, facilities, scheduling or patient flow (i.e. practice management) to the Chief Medical Officer.
- Responsible for directing and supervising clinical staff as appropriate.
- Maintains organized, complete adult medical records with regard to content appropriateness and confidentiality. Assists in the evaluation of medical record QA and outcomes measures.
- Maintains the office hours of HW and must abide by HealthWorks for Northern Virginia’s policies and procedures.
- Participates in provider staff, clinical staff, and general staff meetings.
- Shares in responsibility of teaching of Health Science students, residents, and other health professionals as HW’s increasingly becomes involved in the training of Health Science students.
- .Maintains certifications which strengthen physician ability to provide quality care (i.e. ACLS, APLS, NRC, etc.)
- Maintains an affiliation with professional groups, medical associations, and medical organizations, per policies and as requested by CMO.
- Represents HW in the community through involvement in community activities, which support the mission and philosophy of HW including hospital medical staffs.
- Participates in marketing self and HW to the community as a way of attracting new patients to the practice.
- Provides health and wellness education for all clients delivered in a culturally competent manner.
- Assists clinical teams with management of high-risk clients and emergencies.
- Demonstrates an appropriate knowledge of the meaning of informed consent and ensures that informed consent is obtained for procedures as appropriate per protocol.
- Educates patients and family members on the patient’s diagnoses within scope of knowledge and authority.
